Good Tuesday everyone. A line of severe thunderstorms is blasting eastward across the state and has prompted numerous severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings around the Louisville metro. This line is moving east at up to 50mph. Damaging winds are the main threat with this bad boy, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.
If you’re wondering… there is NO severe weather watch in effect anywhere across our region. The Storm Prediction Center is picking up where it left off last year in pretending like the state of Kentucky doesn’t exist.
Don’t forget to track the storms on the radar page. Post the weather from where you live and I will keep blowing up your twitter timeline. Take care.
Is it me or does it seem like when the SPC puts us in a moderate risk (or the rare high risk) not much happens but when they don’t even issue a watch out all, damage happens.
I no longer trust the products from the SPC. Better to listen to Chris and NWS Louisville.
this is true too for other areas like western VA.
just rain here as of this morning, nothing of severe nature. its strange though because the areas that saw 3-4 inches of snow the other night are now seeing tornadoes and severe weather. kind of extreme, 2011 repeat? 🙂
Impressive radar.
Hi MikeM…. I missed it all. No windows anywhere near my little office.
I don’t think there will be any flurries the time around. It looks like the moisture is outta here!
The SPC is getting worse every year. They did talk about upgrading the Ohio Valley to a slight risk yesterday but didn’t. They didn’t even have a risk area for Mo and IL this morning and they got hammered. Asleep at the wheel.
The sun has been out here in EKY and I’m wondering if it will fuel the storms further….

10:33 cst, this was after the fact, if I am reading it correctly? Unless there is more coming
Chris, once again, you’re on top of things. Honestly, when it comes to the weather in Ky, I don’t know what the state would do without ya…
Confirmed tornado crossed 65 in Sellersburg In. Out doing a mid winter mulch job and all hell broke loose in Metro Lou. Seems harder hit area was south and east of city. Now can we get some SNOW!!!
I am still predicting a White KY Derby….
We get severe weather outbreaks in winter all the time. This is not unusual.
Looks like the I-64 and north section of the line is finally weakening. South of I-64 still getting hammered. Torrential rain and wind in Frankfort.
At least LMK is doing a good job keeping up with warnings. But a watch box sure would have been nice.
Raining hard in Lexington….after the alert has expired!!!!
OK, now here’s where criticisms of the SPC are well warranted. We have a line of thunderstorms moving through Kentucky, some with a history of spinning up tornadoes. And no watches, only a statement with an area of Kentucky that was hatchmarked as an area to watch for a possible Watch. Pathetic.
Is there really a chance for flurries, etc after this big boy comes through. I’m not really seeing much on the radar where it’s already been through.
Beginning to clear out nicely in Versailles. Lots of rain during the squall and high wind but no damage That I can see in South Woodford County.
Hopefully no one is injured in the tornadoes.
Now with all the storms behind us can winter finally begin for real?
I’m beginning to wonder if the ineptness of Congress is seeping into the NWS and Storm Prediction Center operations. I hope not!
Couldn’t get on the blog when the storms were coming, no biggie just wanted to let you know 🙂 Thank GOD for Twitter haha
same problems here…
I’m still wondering about the cold air and chance for snow/icy roads. Is that still a thing? lol
Bob I would say ice will be a concern but snow not so much. Anybody have updates with the thursday system?
Thanks!
seattle washington, in store for a HISTORIC SNOWSTORM over the next few days!!.. average seasonal snow fall for Seattle 6″.. forecast thru thursday night 12-16″ !!!! insane…
Today was a nice spring day.
