Good Friday, everyone. On this Veterans Day, let me start out by saying a heartfelt thank you to all those who have served this wonderful country. On this big day, we have a cold front working into the region. This front will make you freeze over the weekend.
Winds will be very gusty as this front zips through, but there’s no precipitation anywhere to be found. Lows tonight will drop into the upper 20s to around 30 in many areas. Saturday highs recover into the upper 40s to low 50s depending on where you are.
Sunday morning is a hard freeze in the making for most of the state. Mid to upper 20s are a safe bet.
A weak upper level low moves across the region late Sunday into Monday. This MAY produce a light shower by Monday, but it looks mainly dry.
A second upper level system moves in Tuesday into Wednesday. The GFS and European models both have it, but show it differently.
The GFS…
The European Model is much sharper with the trough digging in from the northwest. In turn, it’s a much chillier rain showing up…
Once that system moves away, we focus on a bigger system moving in by the end of the week and into the weekend. This will be a big wind maker as temps spike in front of it, and collapse quickly behind it. The GFS continues to show some wraparound winter weather into our region next weekend…
With so many systems showing up next week, the behavior of each will greatly impact what happens to the one that follows. To further complicate matters, a late season tropical system may try to develop deep in the Caribbean.
I will have another update later today. Enjoy your Friday and take care.
Temp got down to 27 this morning
29 in Harlan. Okay, we get no frost advisories when we first started seeing frost and we are getting freezes when we finally have frost advisories!!!
30 in Brodhead at 4am.
The upcoming hard freezes (from Kentucky to north Georgia) could make things even more of a tinderbox as vegetation killed by the cold and more fallen leaves could add more fuel for the fires, especially if the few showers forecast for the next week or so underperform.
But at least some of us will no longer be sneezing from pollen and the like until next year 😉 although others will still be breathing in all this smoky air.
36 this morning in Nashville, although no frost on the car as I headed to the office.
