Good Saturday, everyone. It’s another seasonally chilly day in the works across the bluegrass state, but rounds of rain are about to take center stage. The potential is there to get in on more rain in a few days time than what we’ve had in the past few months combined. Bring it, mother nature! 🙂

Low clouds are going to be awfully tough to get rid of today and that means chilly temps will continue. Highs across central and eastern Kentucky will generally range from 40-45 degrees. There is even a small chance for some drizzle.

This evening is the tree lighting in downtown Lexington and it looks like temps will be in the upper 30s. If you’re thinking about heading down there, here’s another incentive…

The WKYT weather team will be there and we will be performing a special rendition of Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Ok, I kid about that, but we will sword fight you with a ruler. 🙂

Sunday’s weather looks good with 20s to start and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s for many areas. Clouds will roll in during the afternoon and evening, ahead of a big rain maker arriving from west to east on Monday…

That scenario would deliver a good 1″-2″ across western and central parts of the state, with up to an inch in the east. As that moves away Tuesday, we focus on the next low pressure developing along the front by Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The models all play this next low a little differently. Here’s the Canadian…

That would be another 1″+ of rain for much of the region, and could end as some flakes Wednesday night and early Thursday.

The European Model has a similar look…

The GFS can’t make its mind up, but that’s typical for this model. The latest run takes this farther east and has some rain or a mix…

Any of the above scenarios unleash seasonally cold temperatures to open December. A few could even give us late week flakes on a northwesterly wind flow.

From there, it’s all about another big system developing in Texas and the southwest. Whenever this ejects out, there is likely to be another potent storm system rolling our way. This time, with colder air in place. There is just so much going on between now and then, we will have to focus on that one in the coming days.

I will throw you another update later today, but the ruler event may keep that from happening.

Have a great Saturday and take care.
