Good Tuesday evening, folks. I haven’t had much time today to look at a whole lot of what’s going on, so I’m playing a little catch up. I still wanted to drop by for some quick thoughts on what’s going on.
– The NWS in Paducah confirms another tornado touch down in western Kentucky Sunday night. This was an EF-0 twister with 80mph winds that hit Todd County. This brings the Kentucky tornado count to 6 for this young year.
– Heavy rain threat still looks on target from late Wednesday through Thursday. Many areas should pick up an inch or two of rain.
– I am not one to trust computer models very much and I’m really not trusting them with what they show for Friday into the weekend. They look funky. I will have to dig into them more in depth a little later and have a full update overnight.
Have you guys seen this?
That’s what the sun looked like recently and it produced the biggest solar radiation storm since October 2003.
This may impact power systems, spacecraft and aircraft operations and migratory animals.
This means we have an outside shot at seeing the northern lights tonight. If you are lucky enough to catch them… take a pic and we’ll show it off.
Have a great evening and take care.
anyone know the best time to try to catch the northern lights?
While I’m hardly an expert, this site might be useful:

It would be really cool if, in our lifetimes, we catch at least some of Earth’s next magnetic pole reversal. A reversal is overdue, the last one was about 700,000 years ago 😉
When you say pole reversal…………is that the same thing as a pole shift? I’ve heard of that…….But from what I’ve heard, that would NOT be a good thing.
True, among other things it will play havoc with composes, perhaps effect wildlife species that have not adapted well to past reversals.
However, this reversal is going to happen sooner or later.

It wouldn’t be a whole lot of fun. That’s for sure.
is this tonight
tx CB,
Who was it on this site that wanted to build a storm shelter?
Here ya go:

very clever !!..lol…I hope I can get around that good at 89 yrs. old…
That was me. Love it! One problem…I’ve got seven dogs and three cats! A video of me stuffing all my critters into a trashcan while wind and rain whipped around us would be something to see. Chances are all my pets would be safe and I would be blown to the Land of Oz. Thank you for posting this! 🙂
Update: Morristown’s radar went offline yesterday (Jan 23) for its upgrade.
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mrx/?n=dual_pol
So folks in east TN and southeastern/south central KY will make due with other radars during the upcoming heavy rain event.
A nice thing is that Morristown is ahead of schedule, was not due for upgrade until Feb. However, this tech team won’t come near our area again 🙁
Another team (also ahead of schedule) will handle Wilmington OH and Charleston WV in early fall.
A third tech group will do Indianapolis, Louisville and Jackson KY this fall, and Paducah, Ft Campbell and Evansville in early 2013; this team is now in Kansas and seems closer to schedule compared to the others (Topeka radar still offline).
