Good Thursday, everyone. Old Man Winter has returned to the bluegrass state with a seasonal brand of temps and some snowflakes filling the air. These flakes are part of a strong northwesterly flow that can put down some light accumulations at times through the weekend.

Temps today will be in the 30s with a strong northwesterly wind blowing. Some snow showers and flurries will be scattered about the region, but shouldn’t amount to anything…

We should see a ramp up in the action tonight into Friday. This is when we can get some light accumulations as temps drop into the 20s. Some slick spots may develop on area roads, and there’s an outside chance at a delay or cancellation.

A few more flurries and snow showers carry us into Saturday, but the focus continues to be on a stronger system showing up Sunday into early Monday…

GFS 4

This type of system has the potential to lay down a 1″-3″ snowfall across our part of the world. Is that a snow day I smell for Monday? Maybe. 😉

The GFS snowfall estimates(not snow depth) through Monday…

GFS snow 3

Again, that’s cumulative over a 5 day stretch. Most of that falls Sunday and early Monday.

The trend on the models for next week continues to go toward the ideas we have been talking about for a while now… Cold with snow chances. Up until yesterday, the models had all been showing a massive warmup for much of next week. I never once mentioned it because the pattern I was reading looked just the opposite.

Let’s see how the models look for Tuesday through Thursday…

GFS

GFS 5

Looks cold to me with some snow showers and flurries.

Canadian…

Canadian

Looks cold with a better snow chance that what the GFS is showing.

What about the European? Here we go…

Euro

Yep… that looks cold with a couple of light snow systems showing up. Just a few days ago, the European Model had a furnace. With so much energy ejecting out of the southwest, the European will likely have some issues over the next few weeks.

I will have updates later today. Have a great day and take care.
