Good afternoon, everyone. Winter continues to blow back into the bluegrass state today as gusty northwesterly winds kick in. A few flurries and snow showers will increase on this flow and will ramp up by later in the weekend.
Winds are gusting to 30mph at times with temps in the 30s. That’s making it feel much, much colder. The flakes increase from the northwest into tonight, when some coatings will be possible by Friday morning.
Flurries and snow showers will be around Friday into Saturday with temps a little colder than today. Light accumulations are possible, especially at night.
The Sunday system will be the one that can put down a more widespread light accumulation that takes us into Monday. That’s the one that can give us some Monday morning snow days for some.
The snowfall totals (not snow depth) from the last two runs of the GFS…
6z
12z
The Tuesday through Thursday systems show up better and better as we inch closer. The Canadian really likes the snow chances with a couple of systems…
The GFS sees one of the two…
I will hook you up with another update this evening. Enjoy your day and take care.
This teacher in the Lake Cumberland area is ready for some snow days!!!!!
Thanks Chris. I am liking the looks of the systems Sunday and then into next week. “Gooder” possibilities of snow. It will be good to see a bit of it! Looking forward to the next update. They get better with each one! Have a great afternoon all.
Loved the fire drill we had a few minutes ago with the snow flakes flying! Oh you should have heard the whining! Thanks for all you do CB!
The bigger storm for next weekend looks like mostly rain but on the backside a couple Inc he of snow .way to far to really know of course
Right now it appears Sunday is our best hope for accumulating snow. Maybe a miracle for the bigger storm?
You talking a bigger storm for the Sunday system or further down the road?
The bigger storm around Feb. 5-7. The models like usual are giving their typical waffles, and the last batch has left a bad after taste.
😉
Saw occasional sleet showers on my way to lunch in Covington today.
Which areas have the best chance for a coating tonight, anyone?
Yes I would love yo know as well.
Northern KY and North Eastern KY
Snow–please!!! I think CB loves the first call posts, the snow total maps, and the barrage of tweets, and on-air updates that come with an anticipated snow storm. I remember the days of turning on tv and having the surprise of seeing 4-6 inches were coming.
Not too sure we will see that this winter. Seems CB’s winter outlook is gold. Still a chance though 🙂
I would not get to hung up on anyone talking about a warm up coming. Feb will be below normal on temps and near normal if not above for snowfall. Next weekends system could be a thumping even if it starts as rain. The one that follows could be bigger. We are in for a pattern change and this will lead us into March. All you snow lovers out there just be patience ours will come. I see threat level snows and first call maps in our future.
I’m pushing the “Like” button
That’s the spirit! 🙂
Sadly though, I think CB is now part of the Dark Side. It would take a big threat mode event to pull him back 😉
A threat that becomes reals.
18Z GFS in now. Seems snow totals are falling with each consecutive run for the Sunday clipper and the 18Z is no exception. At this rate, by the time Sunday gets here there will be no clipper at all.
What irritates me the most is the dang wind direction of WNW…this is why our lake effect has been so weak the past couple of years which really helps the Eastern half of the state out. We really have had the real good NW or NEW wind flow in a good while now. The setup right now mostly effects WVA on NE ward.
