Good Wednesday to one and all. This is the time of year when a lot of weather folks put things on autopilot for a little as the weather becomes quite boring with each day featuring similar conditions. That’s just not our style here at the Center as we keep plugging along.
Having said that… this pattern certainly does not spark a lot of interest in forecasting and can make for some boring times here. Let’s try to create something out of nothing with the headlines…
– Showers and storms blew up across parts of the state Tuesday and put down a ton of rain in some areas. That is what we will have to be watching for over the next several days… slow moving storms and locally torrential rains.
– We will see a few scattered storms going up today with the best chance being across the south.
– Highs on this Wednesday will hit the mid and upper 80s with a 90 possible.
– The threat for showers and storms will increase as we roll into Thursday and Friday as another front settles in from the northwest. Highs will sneak down a few degrees from where we are today.
– A scattered storm will be possible into the upcoming weekend as temps begin to climb again. This climb in temps should take us toward 90 again by early next week as we really ramp up the humidity.
– Just like all the times before… the heat will get cut off at the pass before it can really crank up around here. Make no mistake about it… the hottest air has been to our west and will continue to head farther west over the next few weeks.
– It is this pattern that should really get the Gulf of Mexico moisture streaming into our region and much of the southeastern part of the country. Many of the medium range forecast models are suggesting this to be the case and are forecasting some good rains for much of the region…
GFS 2 Week Rainfall Forecast
Ok… you know the drill by now. Time to get your daily dose of weather tracking…

Have a great Wednesday and take care.

I’ll believe that map when I see the rain. You posted another one back on June 21 showing 4-6″ over the next 16 days. I am currently sitting on about 0.25″ for that time period. No water means no lawnmower but trees losing leaves in early July isn’t so good.
Can’t wait to start some wintry talk around here!!! 😉
I’m with you. In northern Jessamine we’ve had even less rain than you. But today, when my daughter has an outdoor birthday party planned, now it is threatening rain. I know that some people have gotten a lot of rain lately, but not us. We’d like some, just not right now!
Hi guys. The map in question from a few weeks ago was actually very good. The only part of the state that failed to get the heavy rain was the bluegrass region. Record rains were recorded during that time in Covington, Louisville and Paducah. For the month of June… every official reporting station had much above normal rainfall except for Lexington and Frankfort. Still… both cities are well above normal for rain on the year.
While some of you have not seen the rain. Keep in mind, you are in the minority in Kentucky.
Take care.
Thank you Chris for all your hard work on this site even during the “boring” weeks.
Yes, but mesonet and APHS will fill in the holes that the NWS missed. Not only is there a pretty large dry patch over the Bluegrass but there is also one between BG and Somerset and another from Morgan to Martin county. Yes, it is less than 50% so it is the minority, but I would they that the map was correct either.
Chris, no doubt about it, your maps were great. I know most people have been getting lots of rain at times. It’s the same frustration I get with the “snow dome” effect, the precipitation is all around us and we don’t get it. Or else you see all these reds and yellows heading your way and then it just falls apart. We’ve even had some spectacular lightning around here the last few days and all we got were a few drops of rain, sigh.
That should be “wouldn’t say”.
I have seen very little rain at my place. Those of you that have gotten some downpours, be happy. My pastures have gotten brown in spots and the only thing growing is weeds.
You can sure have some of the rain I’ve had where I live. We’ve had a few gulley washers.
I know it’s frustrating for those of us in the bluegrass region (especially those of us with gardens to grow), but I believe it really will balance out in the end. Our number will be drawn by Mother Nature soon enough.
Chris – I know it might be boring to do the blog during the summer doldrums, but I want to thank you for keeping us weather-aware every day of the year, and not just during that, er, “other” season.
Boring or not, I still love this weather blog and it is the only one I trust. Now, if it is a little boring, get it going crazy by asking everyone to post their “dreams” for this winter!
We had planned a 4 day rough camping trip, but Thursday looks bad,amd according to Hazard Fri.storms. I think I’ll just stay home and read a book
