Good Friday everyone and welcome to the biggest weekend of the entire summer. The 4th of July holiday is upon us and we have you covered with tracking tools and the forecast for all the parades, fireworks and cookouts.

Our weekend gets started off with the eastern flank of the plains heat ridge trying to bulge in here. As it does so… some clouds and decaying bands of showers and thunderstorms are working along it across the Ohio Valley. While the threat for any thunderstorm action today is fairly small… the leftover clouds from overnight storms will play a big part in where your temps wind up. Much of central and eastern Kentucky should top out in the mid and upper 80s as the west cracks 90.

You can follow today’s small storm threat and temps below…

Current Temps

We will head into Saturday with a much more humid brand of air in place. Combine that with a cold front to the north and the fact we are only on the cusp of the hot temps and you can get some scattered storms going up. Temps will hit the 90s for the western half of the state with upper 80s to near 90 elsewhere.

That cold front will begin to impact us on Sunday as it slowly sinks southward. This will touch off some scattered storm action and whittle a few degrees off of the Saturday high temps.

How about our Independence Day? Here ya go…

Readings should generally be in the 80s with the chance for some scattered storms once again. This will not be a washout and you should be able to get many of those outdoor activities in.

Another cold front will follow this one up and should arrive on the scene by the middle of next week with some more storms. This pattern continues to keep the heat to our west and may actually push it farther away than it has been recently.

I will have updates on the big weekend forecast as needed so be sure to check back. Have a great Friday and take care.
