A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is now out for much of central and western Kentucky until 10am EDT. Here is the watch outline and the latest warnings…
I will have updates as needed so check back. The prior update and tracking toys are below.
Good Sunday everyone and welcome to a stormy day across Kentucky. Rounds of rain and thunderstorms will move across the region from northwest to southeast and these boomers will pack a punch. This pattern is likely to carry us into early this coming week.
Before we get to the storm tracking toys… let’s give a breakdown of what to expect.
– Thunderstorms today will bring a double dose of trouble. Damaging winds and large hail will comprise the severe weather threat and torrential rains will bring the local flash flood threat.
– Monday should feature more of the same with rounds of thunderstorms continuing.
– A cold front will sweep through here Tuesday and touch off more thunderstorms with a similar outcome… some severe with heavy rains.
– A lot of water may fall in many areas between from today through Tuesday with totals of more than 2″-3″ possible. This setup has me concerned for a little more than just local high water and that’s something for us to really keep an eye on.
Follow all of today’s action with your friendly tracking tools…

Rain, wind, thunder, lightning in Frankfort.
Traveling from Atlanta to central ky this am. Is the weather this am concerning enough to delay the trip??
I don’t see any need to storms just came through and outside of heavy rain it was a non event so far and i’m not that far from I75
How did that huge hole open up in the middle of this rain event?? Oh yeah, it’s the central Ky precipitation dome……fall, winter, spirng , summer…the wx fall apart zone!!!
Pretty amazing, and frustrating, isn’t it?
and that happened after it went through.
surely you guys got some rain this morning if not i will share mine you can take what i get the rest of the week 🙂
Beautiful lightning show last night about 4am as I was headed home from the hospital here in lovely little Woodford County. Hope your doing well.
WOODBINE today r5 NORDIC TRUCE wins stylishly with GG up200WP at good odds,. QUEENS PLATE race 10 CHECK YOUR SOL 500 WIN on this one.
That doughnut hole in the middle does look impressive. Maybe that’s the center of the low pressure?
Oh, we got some rain but it was cut short by these goofy systems that can’t seem to stay organized long enough to produce a good, all morning rain but rather fizzle out like a bad firework.
Will there be anymore rain today since we were shorted. When I went to be about 430a it looked like we would be getting a ton of rain. NOT! No surprise really since we are a percepitation Bermuda Triangle.
I know. I was actually expecting this somewhat. I went to bed at 3 am and it looked as if it was moving in a general west/east flow, but given the last few that were in the same area at the same time of day and ended up diving almost south while the lighter rain stayed to the north, then sort of poofing out, leaving us overcast.
Not sure if any of you know about this site. I found in digging around at the NOAA site. You can see the national or regional satellites and radars etc from the past 12 hours and change the speed of the loop as well.
Don’t change anything but the amount of hours you want looped and click the area of the map you want looped, whether national or regional. Sometimes it will freeze while loading. Most of the time it loads fine for me.

i hardly call over an inch of rain in less than 2 hrs shorted that much rain in that short amount of time is a ton especially considering how wet the ground was from last weekend
According to the Mesonet no one near Lexington got over an inch.
oh didn’t know you were referring to a specific location thought you were making a general statement about the entire state since no location was given
Sorry. I can agree on some areas just were hammered.
you can have my rain for the rest of the week 🙂
