Good Monday everyone and welcome to an active weather week across our region. This week will also feature some big changes to our temps as a things start toasty and end on a much cooler note. Getting from point A to point B could be a bumpy ride.
Speaking bumpy rides… much of the commonwealth had some booming storms over the weekend. These storms dropped some serious rains for a lot of folks. Check out the radar estimated totals from the past several days…
Today will feature a few more rounds of showers and storms with the greatest concentration will be in central and eastern Kentucky. Some of these storms may be strong or severe and put down more torrential rains. We will have all that covered with the tracking tools in a bit.
Outside of showers and storms today… temps will surge into the upper 80s to low 90s. The hottest air will be located into far western Kentucky.
Current Temps
Temps on Tuesday will head toward 90 for many as humidity levels really crank up. A scattered shower or thunderstorm will be possible in the afternoon or evening.
Wednesday looks to be a very stormy day around here as a strong cold front moves in from the west. This has the look of a widespread severe weather day from the plains into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes and that would put us in the line of fire.
Scattered storms may hang tough Thursday into Friday and possibly the coming weekend as much cooler air moves in. Check out the temp departure from the GFS Ensembles…
Let’s get back to the the threat for storms on this Monday and what you have been dying to see… your storm tracking toys.

All I can say is WOW!!! Never had it rain this hard. Bad winds an lots of thunder/lightning in south Lincoln. Where have the warnings been for us lately?? Several have been missed the last month or so…….
Enough is Enough already
I will be traveling to and from Louisville Tuesday and Wednesday. Does it look like the Wednesday severe weather will be mainly afternoon/evening, or is this an all day severe weather event/chance?
I’m surprised I still have electricity. It went off once and came back on. I haven’t seen it storm this hard and this long! It just keeps going! Lots of lightening. Loud, loud thunder. Heavy rains. Wow!!!! I hope it lets up soon.
Yeah, rainfall rates 4 in. per hour with this stuff..
I know. These type of storms always have so much more heavy rain and lightning than any squall line, and when they move over the same area and redeveloping like they are doing, it’s pretty crazy to see. It was like that one night in Lexington when we had seven inches of rain in three hours. I think it was in September of all months when that happened.
flash flood threat increasing in the jackson area w/ training storms. also cluster moving southeast from indy will be worth watching as it moves southeast into a highly sheared and moderately unstable area.
If this were “Kansas Weather Center”, we’d be talking about the SPC taking Southwest Kansas out of the Slight Risk for severe weather, then issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. Lol.
Back here at home, one would think JKL would be issuing a Flash Flood Warning for their home county of Breathitt and points Northwest any time now. Looks like some big-time training going on down there.
Moderate-Heavy rain for the past 2 hours here in Pike Co. I look for the NWS to issue a Flood Advisory for us
