Good Saturday to one and all. Showers and thunderstorms will become very common across the state today as we kick off a stormy weekend. Rounds of showers and storms will move in as the nose of the heat begins to push into parts of the Ohio Valley.
Before we get to the storm tracking tools… here is a breakdown of where we are going…
– Thunderstorms will pack a punch today with damaging winds and large hail possible.
– Rounds of storms will carry is into Sunday with the greatest coverage across central and eastern Kentucky.
– Rain totals for many should top 1″ this weekend with local amounts up to 3″ possible. Any area getting in on repeat thunderstorm action may see some high water problems.
– The heat is pushing the storms through the region and will finally take over for the start of the new week. Monday and Tuesday will see temps around 90 or a little better.
– The stage is being set for another big change for the middle and end of next week as some very cool air moves into the plains states. This should fuel an outbreak of severe storms from the plains into the Ohio Valley. Temps by the end of next week into the following weekend will take a big dip around here and across much of the country.
Let’s get back to today and the tracking toys…

Wow! Just saw the radar as I was reading this mornings post. Already looks ugly. Chris, you mentioned big changes next weekend with temps…..can you give us more details, please? I am hoping for a beautiful day for a wedding….right now, time to get some coffee andget ready to go to work. Have a great Saturday, all, and thanks for all you do, Chris!
And once *AGAIN* the most intense line/cells making the dive to the southeast south of Lexington!
Grrrrrr
Man, that’s an impressive radar!
Another rain delay here at ichthus. Looks like it may be a while looking at the radar.
Icthus has terrible weather every year. I think God is trying to send a message. Just sayin’….
But this is just what our yards needed. I can’t believe it’s really happening. 🙂
Hmm…..so Ichthus means “fish.” Well, you gotta have water—they go hand in hand! 🙂 And some people think rain is God’s favor—so long as we don’t get any severe weather there, maybe it isn’t a bad thing after all.
Trying to put a positive spin on this whole thing, you know. 🙂
I’m sure you all get sick of me asking this but what will we get in EKY?
Info for anyone planning travel on Hwy 150 between Nelson/Washington Co’s in KY-there’s been a HUGE rock slide @ the “Burg Hill” blocking both lanes. Expect the road to be closed for a few hours! We’ve had some hellacious amounts of rainfall here the past few hours!
Yeh I should just keep my opinions to myself. My apology. I grew up around the Ichthus kind of thing, and there was a lot of negative stuff that went on there. But that’s got nothing to do with a weather blog.. so I’ll stay on topic from now on. 😉
Look at the radar.
Over 1″ of rain has fallen in a short period here in Barbourville!!!! And its still coming down with small hail and gusty winds!!!! Heads up to the south and east of knox co!
Areal FLOOD ADV. Just issued for several counties here in se ky. Including Knox,Laurel, whitley
rain,Hail and wind laid some of my corn down grrr
Nice the second round isn’t even coming toward central Ky..that’s fair
I don’t know about you, but if I lived in Central Texas, I’d move out. Have some friends in Abilene and the coolest high temperature thus far this month is 94. 9 of the past 11 days have gone over 100, and the other two days the high was 99.
Also have had zero precip all month until I think a thunderstorm rolled through in the past couple of hours.
