Good Thursday everyone. Rounds of showers and storms have been common across the state over the past few days and that’s a pattern that looks to hold tough into the upcoming weekend. This will help to keep the heat from fully building into our part of the world as we await the next round of cooler air for the end of next week.
In the short term… we will see temps rebounding into the 80s for the first time this week for much of the region. Highs should hit the low 80s in the east with 90 in the far west.
Current Temps
While the most of the day will be dry… there is the chance for a shower or thunderstorm today and that action will show up here…
The heat ridge across the southern plains into the deep south means business. Temps well above 100 degrees were recorded from Oklahoma to Florida over the past few days. I say no thanks to anything remotely like that and mother nature is working in our favor as we will only get another glancing shot of heat by later this weekend into early next week before changes start to show back up.
Clusters of showers and storms will be roaming through here for much of the Friday-Sunday period as the heat core stays to our west and south. You can see what i’m talking about with the GFS…
A few strong or severe storms will be possible and these storms can put down a lot of water in a short amount of time for some.
I do expect a few 90 degree days for many late weekend into early next week. That shouldn’t last as a nice shot of cool air moves into the plains states by mid week then makes a run at us later next week. Check out how the GFS Ensembles wipe out the heat next week…
To get a transition like that… one could assume some big storms from the plains into the Ohio Valley at some point.
Have a great Thursday and take care.

3/5 DAILY DOUBLE r4 5 horse is a lock IMO.
We had a stormy day especially during the mid-morning hours yesterday. Lightning was a major player in the damage in our area in Louisville.
Trees were struck, homes were struck, and even bales of hay.
I visited a home that sustained serious damage from a lightning strike and provided pics of the tree and home.
Day 2 outlook hot off the press includes much more of central Kentucky now. Looks like tomorrow could be an exciting day afterall. Will be pouring over model data this evening…
I sure hope for some more widespead rain than I saw yesterday. It was all around me, but all I ended up with was just enough rain to knock the dust down. Not enough to soak in for the garden and my crispy yard! Although the cooler air is sure nice
I got lucky. In Lawrenceburg, my house picked up .65″ of rainfall yesterday. It was my first measurable rainfall in 19 days. We NEED much more…but I’m just glad I got something.
You know, I really hate complaining about needing rain when areas in Texas haven’t had much rain in forever. But we need consistent rain.
Got a good drink in Versailles yesterday…3/4 of an inch. The corn and beans in the garden say thanks.
