Good Saturday and welcome to the final weekend of February. March is just around the corner and our weather has certainly been rather March-like for a while, now. It’s an active pattern that looks to continue as we usher in the first month of meteorological spring.
Our weekend is off and running on a cold note across the area. High temps will stay in the 30s for much of central and eastern Kentucky with a few flurries or snow showers. The west will see readings in the mid and upper 40s.
The cold air won’t last long as our temps begin to take off Sunday and Monday. Here’s where the NAM takes your thermometer…
60s should be common for Monday and Tuesday as gusty southwesterly winds pick up. This is ahead of our next big storm that takes shape across the plains states and heads into the Great Lakes by the middle of the week. This one continues to have the look of a possible severe weather maker around here.
You can see the widespread showers and thunderstorm action showing up on the GFS…
We’ll keep an eye on that system and one coming in behind it for next weekend.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
I’m so ready for spring…not that it hasn’t basically been spring since October! 😉 This year without a winter isn’t doing it for me!
I here you Neil! We need to all buy stock in OFF! As it will be flying of the shelves this year.
Is there any chance next weekends storm is SNOW??? As much as I would like it to be in the 70 degree range I would like to see one decent snow.
Thinking Snow on last time!
thanks, Chris. Looks like we are in for a rough apring season with storms and pests. You have finally joined the rest of us witht he bug thing….I have had a form of it since right after Christmas, and it just won’t go away. I hope you are feeling better real soon! Take care and thanks for all you do….even when you are sick! Have a great Saturday, all and GO CATS!!!!!
Looks like Richmond and areas around it have not breached 3″ of snow this winter. Wild. Sad thing is, the bottom still has not been hit, since there is still less and zero…..
Did not think we would be this low, so will not venture we will not go lower. Too bold.
Needless to say, the NAM for this winter WAS Lucy’s football and many mets and bloggers took kicks at it for the last few winters.
Here in Bowling Green, we didn’t even see an inch this winter, barely just a dusting! HUGE contrast to last winter!
So for you all, nowhere to go but up 🙂
If it makes winter fans feel a tad better, to date Bowling Green officially has 1.4 inches this winter.
Nashville is now up to a whopping…… 0.4 of an inch 😉 , somehow squeezed a few tenths from storm that buried the TN plateau and southeastern KY.
Needless to say, things can vary even over short distances. As was pointed out on another blog, NWS Louisville (southeastern suburbs) and Louisville’s two airports (Bowman Field, SDF) can get three very different results from a single wx event.
tx CB…
today my DERBY PICK as of now running in RISEN STAR EL PADRINO at fair grounds,
If I read my Twitter feed correctly, that was a good call.
I’m not wishing for snow only a dry out. Still stuck in a rut of weekend weather being much worse than during the week. Looks like from Chris’s post that next weekend may be a washout too. Also not getting more than 2 or 3 days without rain. I would actually take average temps this time of year of mid 50’s without the rain. Would much rather it be 5-10 degrees cooler and dry than 60+ and rain. My vehicles need a clean up in the worst way and if I could find a 5 day stretch with no rain it may just get done.
Drive in a torrential downpour for 20 minutes and mission accomplished 😉
So, could this winter go down as one of our least snowiest ever? I haven’t seen any talk about that lately. Are we still on track for it?
Don’t know about other places, but Lexington has had just enough this season so this won’t be least snowiest (1931-32 will remain champion).
As of right now that second system sure is an eye opener..Ton of moisture being pumped from the Gulf, primed and ready to go..Severe indeed..
Great. More water on the way. lol
Is this system moving up from Texas? I have to roll my eyes when I talk to my mom who lives just outside of Houston. All of last year she did nothing but complain about the drought. I do not blame her at all because it was just brutal. Her house will have to get some foundation work done and the city sewer system shifted and is broken in places, the town has no money to fix it, and nobody is getting proper drainage. (stinky town!)
However, today she was complaining that she’ll never get her yard mowed due to the puddles. She said it will take days to dry out and there is more rain in the forecast. Last week she was upset that her newspaper was tossed in a puddle. It will take a long time for the lakes to fill again, but the whining about too much rain has begun. 🙂
Well, the way this winter has gone, people in south Texas might have to complain about this before long 😛

I like it
LOL! That is 100% true! We used to spray our orange trees if it was going to be anywhere near 32 degrees. And we always wrapped the pipes and left all faucets dripping. 🙂
On a more gentle note:

Note the music, we’ve been talking about Lucy/Charlie Brown so much 😉
Holy cow, Houston got over a foot of snow back in 1899! Similar storm in 1985, but it was San Antonio that got buried instead.
I remember the 1985 snow. I was in Austin in a house with no heat.
Ahead of us?? Seems the warm air has been behind, to the side, under, over and ahead 90% of winter.
