Good Wednesday evening everyone. We are wrapping up a devastating severe weather day across Kentucky. The current tornado report is up to 5 and that may grow as the NWS gets out and surveys the damage.
The good news is the storms are winding down across southeastern Kentucky this evening. That will leave us with a very nice and calm night and that calm weather carries us into Thursday.
We are going to try to do it all over again on Friday as another severe weather outbreak looms. This looks to be a very similar plains storm system that will spawn severe thunderstorms around here. The Storm Prediction Center is already sounding the alert on the Friday threat…
The setup for Friday has an ugly look to it because we will throw a big clash of the air masses into the mix. There is a lot of cold air coming in behind this outbreak and it may even snow late this weekend.
Have you guys seen this, yet?
ย
ย
ย Hmmm… I can’t wait to watch 27 Newsfirst at 11 to find out.
Have a great evening and take care.
What time of day for Friday outbreak for the BG area?
Might still be a bit early to know the timing in BG (I work near Nashville but went to WKU a few years ago, my gf works in Warren County). But little doubt the ugly details will come out as we near the event. Already looking like a very volatile setup for Fri.
Chris this better be you after getting my hopes up…..
It is Chris. You can tell by looking at the picture. I’m sure it is….I hope
CB’s back!!!!! On a more serious note, Friday has the makings of a tornado outbreak. I do think there is a good chance some of KY may be in a high risk on Friday. Moderate risk, IMO, is almost guaranteed looking at the recent data. More supercells seem possible on Friday.
Well hopefully your wrong
For me, I hope I’m right. For everyone hit today, I hope I’m wrong. Every year my feelings conflict me. I don’t want damage, just want a nice dose of creation around my neck of the woods. Seems as though mother nature has been lacking in winter storms, so time for her to bring me the storms and keep damage away from all.
I want the excitement of the storm, but I don’t want me or anyone else to get hurt. If it was safe I would like to be right out in the middle of it.
I hope not west liberty got hit hard today it is really bad here…..
I am so glad to have you report in. I thought you were from around that area. I was worried about you. I’ve been with this blog as long as you have, just changed my name. Just glad you are alright.
Yes we did get hit hard I live out in crockett but feel bad for everyone around me we had alot of flooding up in my neck of the woods.
ok now the icing on the cake would be as MARCH MONSTER/OLD SCHOOL SNOWSTORM to bring the LEGEND BACK IN STYLE.
that said once again, its A GREAT DAY IN OLE KY!! and BRIAN COLLINS is smiling down on us and MR BAILEY. as he woould be so proud!!!woooooo
Well said!
Guess who’s back, back again? Bailey’s back… tell a friend ๐
I guess this post makes it official. Welcome back, Mr. B. Can you be back in Lex for Friday, because it looks scary.
I knew it…..and for quite some time. You seemed to have been dropping hints for quite some time lol…..oh well, happy for you and Lexington is getting a FANTASTIC weather man…..love me some Lexington ๐
i think he already in LEXINGTON, can we get a sighting? was he on WSAZ tonite??
Could it really be????!!!!
CHRIS BAILEY is BACK !!!!!!
I would recognize that voice anywhere…YEAAAAAAA!!!!!!
๐ I am Right Aren’t I ??
LOL! I had the exact same thought. I was so excited and then I got scared and thought I was imagining it. I hope we are all correct and it’s Chris. Like I said this morning, TG would want him, management would want him, viewers would want him – who else could it be??
Chris Bailey is coming home!!!! This is the best news I’ve heard in a LONG time. I will have my TV on at 11 tonight to hopefully see your smiling face. Welcome home to our favorite weather dude!!!!!!!!!!!
ole CB been laying in the weeds on this one, cause this been in works i say at least weeks.
he good at keepingt a secret.lol
He better be a UK fan…. that’s all i gotta say. Well I am sure he is ๐
WELCOME HOME CHRIS!!! ๐
Well I for one hope it is Chris and we are just 3 hours away from knowing. As for our other Lexington meteorologist, he took a cheap shot on his blog last night by saying winter was hardly anything like what was on the front page of our newspaper ( Herald-Leader)
I just know it’s you Chris!!! So excited…but after all this action today, I’m afraid I won’t make it until 11!!
Welcome home Chris!!! We have missed seeing you!
We were lucky today with the weather here. Did have warnings, but managed to miss to really bad stuff. Glad of that. Not so sure we will be as lucky on Friday, the way it is looking. My opinion it that Chris might be coming home. But, tired or not, I will be watching WKYT at 11 tonight to see. (Got my fingers crossed,) ๐ (Wont cross eyes, ain’t got a mule to kick me in the head to uncross ’em.) ๐
CB’s back in town! Can’t wait to start watching him again! Hey Chris, there’s a house for sale two doors down from me, nice quite neighborhood, not to far from wkyt ๐
Welcome Home Chris!!!! You be back where you belong. Do we need to call you CHIEF now? ๐
very lucky here in breathitt co had a round go thru this morning around 4am no wind but lots of lightning was calm to about 230pm when we had a pretty good storm go thru. Top wind gust was 44 MPH lots of lightning and LOTS of rain. Then had another round went thru about 430 with no wind but lots of torrential rain. At my home we had a little over 1.75 ” of rain since 4am this morning. Creeks are up but are receding. No flood damage that i saw just a few some minor mudslides but thankfully nothing like out neighbors in Morgan Co. I will be praying for you all. Hope Friday is not as bad
Sorry, it is the “Voice of Reason”. TG saw the good in him and was able to turn him away from the dark side.
I am SO thankful for this blog, as I am not in the WKYT area, but am in the WSAZ one… I hate to lose Chris Bailey here, and know how much his family was loved in this area. I am happy to see that he’ll be the Chief Meteorologist somewhere, as that looked harder to do at WSAZ, even though he deserved it… Don’t forget about us over here in Boyd County, Chris! Please!
couple big storms popping again in S/SE KY. heads up.
I AM SO EXCITED!!!! Chris, welcome home and you deserve it! I am so very glad you will be back. This better be 100% now. I can’t wait for the official word.
Is there a stream on the nightly newscast online?
yes there is. That’s how I watch it.
yay! ๐
Woo Hoo! Chris is coming back! I would recognize that head anywhere!
I would say its Chris.Rolo are you taking bets lol? All is quiet here now got rough earlier.I have been lucky to get both channels to watch Chris.
A couple rounds of good thunderstorms just rolled through London. Frequent lightning and very heavy rain for a bit. Now the front is through, and we’re all calm….until Friday.
I have been thinking and hoping it was going to be you Chris! U were my favorite weatherman before and ur still my fav! If it’s true and u hope it is, then welcome back!
Welcome Back Home Chris!!! I have really missed seeing you here in Mt Sterling…( I may be just a little prejudice) But I couldn’t get the Huntington Station. My signal just wasn’t that strong.
I hope it is you Chris coming back to WKYT.
Hope our weather man is back !!
We got pretty lucky in Somerset today. I have a feeling Friday wont be the same.
You know that outline kind of favors Chris lol
HES BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not that I always believe the Herald-Leader, but they say Chris Bailey is coming back to WKYT!! WOO HOO!!! That is the best news I have heard all day!
Welcome back home Chris!
I guess we will all be watching WKYT at 11 to confirm the rumors.
Prayers for everyone in today’s weather, all over the mid-west and south.Got close in SE Ky, but close only counts in horseshoe. I guess everyone is willing to help Chris get setteled in, cook some meals, move furniture, welcome wagon etc. Hopefully it will be welcome home Chris.
0z NAM= tornado outbreak across CKY. low level jet likely to be stronger than shown though.
You think so? The NAM has been fairly consistent in suggesting that middle Tennessee would be the more probable target zone Friday afternoon and evening. Southern KY may get into it as well. However, the NAM has a bit of a bias with overdoing the low-level jet and instability. The real question is the return of moisture Friday afternoon/eve along with questions about instability. There remains considerable spread in both moisture and instability, so much so, that I think calling this a tornado outbreak is a bit pre-mature. Perhaps in 24 hours or so, we’ll have a better idea. Just my $0.02 though.
Chris. I can’t believe you’re coming back. Cool! I’ve been reading and commenting on your blog since around the time it started on WKYT. I remember the news of you leaving and everyone was really bummed out. I really didn’t think you would come back.
Let’s hope you’re right MJ
PS……….you can press alt 411 for the ยข sign
OMG!!! I just saw the video on my facebook and though CB is BACK!!! Sorry to see TG go, but SO glad to hear that familiar voice ๐

It’s official bailey back at wkyt
As if I needed another reason to solidify WKYT as my primary news source; thank God the Lexington area will have it’s own real-life Harry Potter to battle Voldemort over there at LEX18.
LOL, That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard! I think we should keep that name for him. You are too funny.
Happy dance!!! Oh happy day!!! Chris, you little bugger! I can’t wait till
you’re home again on WKYT!!! Woo-hoo!!! Welcome home Chris!!!
Here’s a big hug for you! (((((( ))))))

I wish we could have a huge welcome home party for Chris!
Ha-ha. My sister lives in Hurricane, W.VA. Her loss is my gain! LOL
Just a friendly we get him back to her!
I live in southeast ohio, the viewing area for WSAZ. I’m sad that you’re stealing our best meteorologist!!
I’m so excited you’re coming back home!!! I’m sorry to see T.G. leave, but understand his reasoning!! Congratulations Chris!!!
Welcome Home Chris!!! I am thrilled to have you back in Lexington.
Hate like crazy to see our weatherman
TG leave but so happy to see CB back
home!! ๐ welcome back, Mr Bailey.
So now WKYT has the best weather man … Chris you still going to be doing the Weather Center? Oh and Congrats
Yay. It is you. So excited to see you back at WKYT.
Would have been nice having someone like CB on east Tennessee stations as I grew up. Great that CB is returning back ‘home’ again.
Here’s a celebration for this happy, joyful occasion!
He will give LEX 18 a run for their money that is for sure. I bet those guys over there are trying to rush and figure out what to do. I say they should start by getting rid of a few over there.
Also you folks in WV if you like Chris you should move over here closer to us and be in the Lexington DMA ๐ We would love to have you.
Congratulations!!!! But we will miss you and your family!!!!!!!!
My prayers go out to all the families that have lost someone today and to the ones who lost their homes. It’s so sad.
I’m simply terrified of tornadoes. And I for one would rather be waiting a week out wondering if snow is coming and be disappointed that it didn’t then to have this severe weather. Sorry guys it just had to be said.
I’m so happy that I get to read your blog AND watch you on TV now. ๐
congrats chris, when i saw tg had resigned this morning i was hoping we would get you back, im from eastern ky but we usually depend on this blog or wkyt for our weather needs.
Welcome back Chris!!
