Good Monday everyone and welcome to another very hot weather week across our region. As the heat and humidity return full steam ahead… we are seeing signs pointing toward a breakdown of the heat as a stormy and wet pattern tries to eventually set back in.
Today will feature temps steaming back up with readings in the mid and upper 80s for central and eastern Kentucky with 90-95 in the far west.
Current Temps
Tuesday into Wednesday will see the real deal heat and humidity return. High temps will hit the 90s across the board and the heat index will surge into the upper 90s and even some low 100s in the west.
Changes begin to show up in the pattern across the country by the middle and end of the week as our heat ridge begins to head to the south and west again. This happens as much cooler air works into the northern half of the country and you can see this breakdown of the heat ridge well here on the European Model…
That means we will see an increase in some showers and thunderstorms by Thursday and Friday. As we head into next week and toward the middle of the month… our pattern is likely to look much different than the one of the past few weeks. Signs of the wet and stormy pattern of the spring returning to the Ohio Valley are showing up.
Take a look at the two week rainfall forecast from the GFS …
This stormy pattern should also bring about a return to normal temps for the second half of June with a lot of normal or below normal lurking for July and August.
We have been saying to watch the Caribbean for some early season development for a few weeks now and there is a system there that has a chance to develop. The folks at the National Hurricane Center are doing just that…
There have been a few model runs over the past few days bringing some of that moisture our way before all is said and done. We have a long way to go before even thinking about that… but this gives the tropical fans something to track.
Have a great Monday and take care.
Does this mean the tornado weather is coming back or just thunderstorms?
so the NWS gave 50% chance of rain yesterday and 60% last night and didn’t even get a drop of precip not looking to good
One thing I’ve learned in my years is that from June 1 – October 1… take any QPF forecast from the models with a grain of salt. It’s likely that it won’t pan out. In other news.. 96 here by Wednesday? Wow. Didn’t take that wet ground long to dry up, did it? I hate this heat.
It really is amazing that my yard looks as bad as it does after the second wettest spring in history! I’m dragging the hose around watering flowers but the grass is on its own. At least there are no water shortages during our heat wave. I am really looking forward to the pattern change and it’s been hot for less than two weeks. 🙂
In other words, that GFS model run that Chris posted is out to lunch? 😉
Same here as well. Hot/dry/crispy brown grass! I’m ready for a change as well.
Probably. I’ve seen it over and over again during Summer. Perpetual rain chances showing up in the modeling…then POOF it disappears once you get inside the 2-3 day range. Looks like the dry ground, heat, and humidity has set in already and isn’t going away any time soon. 🙁
A change to 80 would be good but not thunderstorms with tornado’s please.
Oh well, at least the weed spray I put down on the grass won’t get washed away anytime soon. I sure was getting used to the nice green grass! I also thought it would last longer being we had such a wet spring.
Drying out in Frankfort also, acting alot like last year so far, hope Chris brings that rain & soon.
I’m dreading this forecast….I hate heat!
I just got a new 22 inch monitor and I feel like I’m sitting in the front seat of a movie theater.
