Good Saturday everyone and welcome to a fantastic weekend. Our weather is finally taking a walk on the nice side and the timing on it couldn’t be better. This is the start of a very mild weather pattern that is taking shape and will carry us through most of March.
Let’s break it down with the headlines…
– Sunny skies will boost temps into the middle and upper 50s for afternoon highs today. This comes after a cold start in the 20s.
– Sunday will see our temps really begin to take off. Highs will surge into the 60s with more sunshine on tap. Some afternoon clouds will begin to stream in from the west.
– Those clouds will lead to the threat for showers and thunderstorms by Monday. Here’s the GFS…
-This system isn’t looking as impressive as it was a few days ago and that’s a good thing. It may still produce a strong storm or two and that’s something to keep an eye on.
– Temps next week will be the main story. Readings will warm well into the 70s for the middle and end of the week and we could flirt with a few records.
– The long-range models continue to point toward this warm pattern hanging around for a while…
– That is some serious warmth showing up for much of North America.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
So does this mean winter is officially dead for E KY & WV? More directly I’m asking snowfall? I know it’s “past” but we still are praying for you, your family & your hometown after the storm day. Good luck on your KY move- we certainly miss you @ that other station. :0)
what was the total number of tornadoes that touched down in Kentucky during this last outbreak? I know that 16 counties were declaired disaters by the president but hadnt heard the number of tornadoes that touched down, and info would be appreaciated! Thanks
Sue, a summary – for better or worse – of the tornado outbreak on March 2nd can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_March_2012_tornado_outbreak
It shows that 16 tornadoes have been confirmed in Kentucky, with 2 more reported but not confirmed (in Daviess and Webster counties).
thank you! I just pray that we never see anything like this again!!!! So heartbreaking!
I know some of you may think I am over reacting however, after last Friday’s storms I have been thinking about my families safety. I have been looking at possible storm shelters for someone on a budget, I must say they are all quiet pricey. Does anyone have any ideas for just a simple old design of a cellar??
I don’t think you’re over-reacting at all, Samantha. I would like to know myself. My family and I were very lucky because we really had no place to go except inner hallways, closets, and bathtubs. After seeing the devastation of my neighbors homes I realized that those choices were not the best. I am afraid that every time severe weather is mentioned now I will be in a state of panic. I bought a Midland Weather Radio, but I still feel helpless.
I have a great idea and it is being done as I write this. My husband found a large water tank which is very sturdy put some braces inside bottom and top made a door out of the stuff looks like dry wall but is concrete. We are digging a hole and going to put it in the ground and concrete around it. The tank was free from local business and alot cheaper than trying to build concrte shelter. We live in a trailer and after last weeks tornados we decided we need something safe. This tank is not real big but enough for us and my dog Lexi to be safe. Hope this will give u a idea.
I like the idea, wonder if it could be put into a hillside instead of down in the ground? Only problem is I have a big family. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks guys! I thought of trying to put something in the ground however there are 6 of us and 2 dogs not sure I could get something big enough! I have a slight hill side was thinking of trying to do something with that, but I want it to be safe and I’m not sure how to go about making it as safe as possible.
CB, no disrespect, but I think the warm air never really left since last fall 😉 It took brief breaks, but that is it.
ready for the 70-80 degree temps CB!!! Wanna ride my motor sickel :p
Please dry up!!! Love the warm weather, but could really use a few days with no rain. Nice to see the trees start turning green.
