Good Wednesday and welcome to what will become another active severe weather day across the state. The ingredients are coming together for a potent outbreak of storms across the Ohio Valley today into tonight.
Today has a shot to be the most active weather day of the entire spring for parts of our region… especially the western half of the state. Damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes will all be possible today into Tonight with the highest chance coming in the late afternoon into the evening hours.
This will be a day where we are updating the blog several times so be sure to check back for the latest information on this possibly major severe weather outbreak.
In the meantime… here are some toys to track the storms with…

How does this out break compare to the outbreak nearly 30 days ago in Mississippi and Alabama.. Is this just a northward positioning of that storm system?? Any Mets wanna comment?
I think today will be an active tornado day across many areas.
I have a poll on my blog asking for your input as to how many preliminary reports of tornadoes there will be today and tonight.
Voting ends at 4pm.
I will use the Storm Prediction Center Web site, which starts their count beginning at 7 am this morning running to 7 am Thursday morning.
Just click on my initials above or go to http://www.mikjournal.blogspot.com

All I know is that NWS PAH is going to be busy later today. They might at well go ahead and call in re-enforcements. LMK *might* be spared of the worst of it. Potentially deadly day coming up… 🙁
Dr. Greg Forbes on the weather channel has west ky. in a 9/10 on his tor con index today!!!…not good!
Looks like the SPC will upgrade Western KY, So Illinois, SE Missouri, NE Arkansas and W Tennessee to a High Risk zone. 🙁
I’m afraid for those folks in the high zone now. And all of us around there.
Line on a map never did stop a tornado
New model data coming in showing a deadly outbreak of severe weather centered on western Kentucky later today… Please tell friends/family west of I65 to take this seriously. Lexington area increasingly likely to see wind damage…
Looks like an overnight issue for Central Kentucky? Not fun.
That speaks volumes….Birmingham was a 9 and it was mass devastation. Will EKY see the possibility of tornadoes?
Sunny in EKY and I don’t think thats a good thing….really hoping not to lose power :/
Any idea what Lexington has in store for this evening and about what time we can expect things to get cranking?
spc extending high risk area toward bowling green area
12Z model data continues to show a relatively weak upper level flow. However, shear and vorticity are HIGH, as well as available moisture and instability. If we had faster upper flow, this would be another historic outbreak..but as it is we will still see terrible storms this evening.
TorCon level in a 9 For Western Ky……Everyone needs to pay attention to the weather today and stay safe……
Curious as to everyone’s take on what far eastern KY should brace for. Don’t really know what to make of it. Thanks
Western KY just put under a PDS Tornado Watch, that means Particularly Dangerous Situation. It includes Bowling Green, Owensboro, Paducah, and Louisville. If you live in those area’s have a plan tonight in case severe weather moves in.
