Good Saturday everyone. Our Friday was a busy one as rounds of showers and thunderstorms blasted the bluegrass state. These storms were strong and severe with a tornado touching down just east of Louisville. Our weekend will feature additional showers and thunderstorms to go along with some cooler temps.
A huge upper level low is spinning across the Ohio Valley and this will cause scattered showers and storms to go up again today. Some of these may produce high winds and hail and we will keep an eye on them. Follow the action on regional radar…
High temps today will be cooler than what we have been spoiled by over the past week. Readings should only hit the low and mid 60s. Sunday should see similar conditions with some scattered storms and temps in the 60s.
Milder air moves in early next week as temps make a run toward the 70s again. Our next round of thunderstorms appears to move in by the time we get to Wednesday.
The pattern continues to look fairly mild and active. This doesn’t bode well for our severe weather season as it is off to a torrid pace already. Every single time the atmosphere has a chance to produce severe weather… it does.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
Can anybody tell me if any warnings were issued for Bourbon County last night around 12:30 a.m.? We got a phone call and the caller ID said “Toll Free Call” so we didn’t answer. (that’s how sales calls show up on the ID)
We played the message this morning and it was the automated weather warning system saying there “might be inclement weather…take shelter…warn your neighbors”, etc. It made no sense. It was raining but I had checked the First Defender radar on 27-3 when I first heard the thunder and saw it did not look too serious.
I have a real negative attitude toward the automated phone warning system since in the past it has called us HOURS after a tornado warning has expired. I find it to be a complete waste of money if it doesn’t warn before a storm, or if it calls in the middle of the night with no specific information. Some people might be lulled into a false sense of security because they think the phone will ring if a tornado is spotted. Yeah, the phone might ring three hours later!
Unlike 99% of this area, we were asleep. We had the DVR set to record UK and my hubby watched it when he got up at his usual time of 4 a.m. He said he didn’t see anything going on during the game that would indicate a serious warning for us.
Sorry to rant so early but that warning system irks me every spring.
I know there was a Tornado Watch issued, but I don’t recall Bourbon ever getting any kind of warning. I’m in Nicholasville and our Emergency Alert System came on 17 minutes after the watch was issued, and I received the alert on my phone from WKYT 26 minutes AFTER it was issued. Glad it wasn’t a TORNADO WARNING, that’s a lot of time to get to shelter. That’s why I just follow Chris on twitter, its MUCH FASTER!
I follow Chris on Twitter too but all my gadgets were shut down at 12:30 a.m. I don’t want the phone to ring to tell me it’s raining. Maybe they put the system on heightened alert after the early March storms, but seriously…it was only raining!
It was nice to fall asleep to the sound of rain without tornadoes. But after what happened to KY about three weeks ago, I was almost afraid to go to sleep when I heard thunder.
I totally understand what you mean about the phone calls, KP . We get them on our cell phones, usually in the middle of, or after the storm. We have gotten them when severe weather is probable, so that we know to be aware. These usually come after a watch has been issued for our area, and are helpful.
After one dangerous weather system a few years ago, we went and
got one of the weather radios. It cost us $30. and and has paid for itself many times more with timely warnings, and watches. Especially when you daughters were in college. We programmed it for thier area as well, and were able to call them with pertinent weather information, as well. During the severe weather event of a few weeks ago, it proved to be invaluable.
Chris, thanks for all the weather info you were tweeting last night. Between your tweets, and TGs, during the game, we were in good hands. Had to be hard to come away from the game to watch and post updates. Thanks so much.
Everyone have a great Saturday, Thanks again, Chris, for all you do.
The Bourbon County/Paris warning system needs work. We did not get a call at all three weeks ago when there really was a reason to be scared. This call last night really jolted us because why does the landline phone ring at 12:30 a.m. unless it’s bad news or some kind of emergency? Also, those calls usually show up as “WARNING” on the ID, which is how I programmed the number into our landline phone and I gave it a unique ringtone so we’d know to listen to the message. Last night was all messed up as far as I’m concerned. I trust Chris and he wasn’t on TV so I wasn’t worried. Warning System, let us sleep when it’s only raining!!!!
great coverage last nite BAILEY, u did great job IMO with ur break ins!!!
I agree !! Great job again !
