Good Monday everyone and welcome to a much warmer weather pattern. It’s time to break out our famous saying that we have used all spring long… When it warms it storms. When it doesn’t warm it simply rains nowadays.
This has been the calling card of one of the wettest springs on record and that will continue this week with a slightly differen twist.
Today’s weather looks like a winner as we will see mainly dry conditions with temps warming into the upper 70s and low 80s.
The pattern the next few days is one that will see some early season heat building in the plains as we have a blocked up setup across the country. We have a big cutoff low across the western Atlantic Ocean that is throwing up a stop sign to every system rolling across the country behind it. This puts a big ridge of high pressure across the plains states with a trough out west and into New England. You can see this upper level pattern very well here…
The orientation of the ride will send a surge of summer into the plains states with our region being on the cusp of the really warm and humid air. This usually sets up a pattern that features clusters of showers and thunderstorms working from northwest to southeast on the eastern edge of the warm air.
That would place much of our region in the middle of the action with a few rounds of storms likely. These can be on the strong side and can put down heavy rains. We will see plenty of dry weather in between these rounds with warm and humid conditions. Outside of showers and storms our temps will warm into the 80s.
The end of the week will feature a slow collapse of this setup with the potential for some big storms as this we make the transition to cooler temps.
There you have it… another week of status quo in the weather world. Have a great Monday and take care.

So, is the cool ground, from the rains, not going to keep us from getting this warm?
That’s what I’m thinking. The ground is soaking wet but the models are still pointing toward putting up some 90s around the area Wednesday if not sooner. Either this is one heck of a heat wave, or evapotranspiration isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. 🙂
A few days without much rain would be great! catch up on yard work and hopefully see some rivers drop. We have been really lucky up here in terms of flooding, can’t imagine dealing with the devistation taking place to our west.
We keep hearing all the rain is going to keep temps in tact, but then hearing upper 80’s predicted this week our local station. Must mean the rain will keep us, under 100! 🙂
