Good Monday everyone. Our new week is set to kick off with more in the way of thunderstorms rolling across the bluegrass state. These storms will have the potential to be strong or severe this afternoon into tonight. The atmosphere is loaded with moisture and this means we will need to keep an eye on the heavy rain threat.
Let’s break it down with the headlines:
– Scattered showers and storms will be possible through the first half of today. Temps will warm into the low and mid 80s with very muggy air in place.
– A cold front edges closer to us late today into tonight. This will provide the atmosphere with a trigger to get more widespread showers and storms to go up.The strongest cells will produce damaging winds and large hail.
– These storms can also bring enough heavy rains to produce some local high water issues.
– Leftover showers and storms will hang around into Tuesday as the cold front finally crosses the region. Much cooler air will work in behind the front and we could spend a few days later this week with readings struggling to get out of the 60s for highs.
I have you all set to follow today’s rounds of storms…
I will drop by with updates as needed and will send out updates via twitter. Have a wonderful Monday and take care.
Thunderstorm tops are warming at this time; weakening will continue for a couple more hours or so.
Don’t let that fool you…things should get interesting today.
Have those weather radios handy…again.
Most recent SPC update drops our region from the slight risk category.
Still, it is a strong cold front and this is a very juiced atmosphere.
Thanks Chris. I hope it doesn’t get really bad today and tonight.
Thanks Chris, even though the snows are gone I still check in every day. I have a question, Does anybody for see any more frost coming to eastern Ky. (Jenkins). we would like to get our little garden out but not to have come up alittle and get bit by frost. Thanks to every body for all your in put, it’s make weather interesting….
Noon news says severe threat is now all but gone. Isolated chances but nothing widespread. Good news!!
Thanks, Chris. Appreciate the information. Boy, the one we got on Saturday morning early was a doozy! No warning that I am aware of, but we sure did have a lot of heavy rain, and heavy lightning to go with it.! Hoping it is not too bad. Have a great Monday, everyone.
The lack of severe weather in both April and now May across central KY is perplexing to say the least. We’ve really been lucky.
if u would have listened or read a post from joe bastardi back in feb. you would know that the tornado threat and severe threat was not going to be nearly as bad this year as it was last year. i know joe was very poor with the past winter as was every met but since feb. he has been spot on. he predicted the march heat wave, he predicted the colder than normal april and the snow storm in the appy mts. he said it would get hot the first week of may and it has and then he said a trough would reestablish itself in the eastern part of the country after the heat wave and lo and behold below normal temps r on the way. not trying to be a wise guy but i subscribe to him and he did give everyone a heads up so my friend that is why the severe numbers r down this year, not because joe said they would be but he gave reasons for it and to read them u have to subscribe to him. thanks for reading and god bless.
Where’s the storms? I know there are some isolated ones going up, but I thought this was going to be a fairly bad day for storms and possibly heavy rain. I actually had my mother change her plans to travel to the far western part of the state today as I was afraid she’d be running into rain and possibly hail. Not that I’m upset about the lack of storms, it’s just how it caused a major change in plans and it’s been sunny all day long, sigh.
starting to hear the thunder here in flatwoods,
Where is the rain???
We just had torrential rain and decent winds in northwest Lex. Some lightning
Heavy rain right now in Danville. My new Kia is getting a nice bath. 🙂
we had 1/2 inch of rain in 15 mins time earlier, the wind and rain was really bad for a short time, some areas out in Boyd Co. have been without power since around 7pm
