Good Sunday everyone. What a scorcher of a May weekend we are wrapping up across the bluegrass state. Temps hit the lower 90s across western Kentucky on Saturday as the rest of the state settled for “only” the mid and upper 80s. Readings should be very similar out there today as we start to focus on a possible heat wave for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend. Oh and we have our first Tropical Storm of the season to deal with. Did I miss spring?
A partly to mostly sunny sky will cover the state today as temps soar back to similar readings as what we had Saturday. A few spots may add a degree or two. Isolated thunderstorms will fire up with the greatest threat across the south and west.
Monday will find a weak cold front working in from the west with a better shot of a few storms going up. Temps should be warm yet again. Here’s how the NAM looks for Monday afternoon…
Temps will come down a few degrees for Tuesday as a brief shot of cooler air works in. This won’t stay around very long as readings start to warm by Wednesday. That’s as a big heat ridge builds across the plains states and works eastward. This may set us up for 90 degree temps from Friday through Memorial Day. The GFS is jumping on the 90s train…
Anyone else sweating just looking at those maps? That could get ugly for the holiday weekend.
Remember a week or so ago when I was telling you not to be surprised if we got an early season tropical storm? Alberto formed Saturday just off the coast of South Carolina…
The Atlantic season doesn’t even start for a few more weeks. Check out this tidbit from the National Hurricane Center…
ALBERTO IS EARLIEST-FORMING TROPICAL STORM IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN
SINCE ANA IN
2003. THIS IS ALSO THE FIRST TIME THAT A TROPICAL
STORM HAS
FORMED BEFORE THE OFFICIAL START OF THE HURRICANE SEASON
IN BOTH THE ATLANTIC
AND EAST PACIFIC BASINS.
Extreme is the new normal… get used to it. Have a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks, Chris. Wondering if that bodes for an active hurricane season overall ? Yesterday was beautiful, if a bit warm. Don’t mind warm temps, as long as it doesn’t get too dry to go along with it! Have a great Sunday, everyone .
Hmm, I’m thinking we’ll be putting the A/C units in the windows early this year. Yuck!
