Good evening, everyone. We are rolling into the weekend with a colder brand of air surging in here and that’s bringing a drying trend. That doesn’t last long as another big storm system gets ready to move in here for the close of 2018. That brings a lot of ugly weather back in here.
This system is looking potent with heavy rain, strong storms and high winds… Again. This is another monster…
Rainfall of 1″-3″ will be possible, leading to the potential for flooding. A few of the storms may even be on the strong or locally severe side.
With or without storms, high winds look to become an issue again. The European Model has winds nearing 60mph…
Happy New Year! Ugh.
Much colder air comes in behind that with our next storm system developing and working our way by Thursday and Friday. The models are still correcting this thing farther west.

New version of the GFS
This active pattern looks to continue as the pattern skews colder through the first 2 weeks of January. The European Ensembles see the snow chances…
The control run is very active…
As always, we shall see.
Enjoy your evening and take care.
Models predicting snow/cold in one week. Just wait seven more dsys.
Not to be negative, but a big problem for us is lack of blocking and lows tracking too far west. We may escape most of the rain from the first storm on New Years but I bet we get a ton of cold-rain with the mid week storm due to model bias going farther west than current predictions. Western KY has the more favorable January chance for winter weather due to colder air and storm track farther west!
Days that is.
Cold keeps getting pushed out. January could be a blowtorch. May be no real winter until we are ready for spring.
I’ve been ready for spring since November. lol
That’s what I was thinking. That’s why I keep saying model says snow in one week.
Swing and a miss
Crossville TN to date has 73.83 inches of rain, less than an inch from breaking the record of 74.36 set back in 1973. With more rain coming before the year is out, 2018 may be destined to be the wettest year on record. Granted, Crossville may have been recording weather far shorter than the likes of Louisville, Knoxville and Nashville, but having nearly 75 inches of rain is still amazing.
Turn off the faucets, already 🙁 .
