Good Friday and a big hello to the month of June. Meteorological spring ended on a stormy note on Thursday with widespread showers and thunderstorms. These storms ended up bringing some much-needed rain to the bluegrass state. That rain was courtesy of an early spring looking storm system that is starting out the first day of meteorological summer on a VERY cool note.
Spring 2012 goes down as one of the warmest ever for many cities in Kentucky. My math on Lexington shows this to be the warmest spring every recorded breaking the old record set in 1977. Spring acted more like Summer and now it looks as if the first week of summer wants to act more like fall.
Showers and thunderstorms will be ongoing early today across central and eastern parts of the state. This action is along and ahead of a strong cold front sweeping through here. The air behind this is chilly for the first day of June. Many areas may spend the better part of the afternoon with readings in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Some late day sunshine may boost thermometers into the mid 60s for a time. Here’s your temp tracker courtesy of the fine folks at Kentucky Mesonet…
Current Temps
If we can clear the skies out tonight… readings will drop into the 40s and may flirt with record lows. Why is no one else mentioning this?
Another weak little system dives in on Saturday with some scattered showers and thunderstorms popping up. Temps Saturday may have a tough time cracking 70 as a gusty wind blows.
We will warm it up a little by Sunday into Monday ahead of a clipper looking system diving in from the northwest. Wait… did I just say Clipper in June? This works in from the northwest and will separate the building heat in the west and the cool across the east. Here’s the GFS…
A Few waves of showers and thunderstorms will be on the move from northwest to southeast around here next week. Our temps are likely to average normal to below for the week, but a day or two could get warm. The European Model doesn’t look excited by any warmth…
I hope you enjoyed summer this past spring. 🙂
Have a great Friday and take care.
We got 2/10ths of an inch of rain in my part of Bourbon County. I was hoping for so much more but I the cooler air is delightful. I don’t mind at all. 🙂
