Good Monday, folks. We have much colder weather pressing into the region today, bringing a few snowflakes along for the ride. This is not how our weather will roll for the rest of the week as rounds of heavy rain bring the potential for more flooding issues.
Let’s begin with the potential for a few snow showers or flurries today. This won’t be terribly widespread, but some flakes may be flying from time to time…
The next system is going to blow in here later Tuesday and carry us through Wednesday. This is another massive rain maker for the region and that’s likely to cause some flooding issues. Here’s a look at the areas most at risk for flooding during this time…
Another 1″-3″ of rain should fall in many areas, leading to the potential for general flooding and river flooding.
The beginning of this whole system is likely to include some winter weather. With cold air in place, the leading edge of the precipitation shield could be in the form of snow, freezing rain, sleet or a combo of the three. The NAM continues to be most aggressive with this…
It’s very possible to have a Winter Weather Advisory and Flood Watch out at the same time for some of the same counties.
Another heavy rain maker follows that up by the upcoming weekend. That may also bring enough rain to cause high water issues.
I will hook you up with more updates later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Going to need an air boat to get around if this keeps up. Looks like this rain train is going to keep on rolling.
I have a feeling it’s going to rain all year
The major models all seem to really be backing off from the higher totals for SE KY and more spread out with the rainfall, that is good!
Storm rain total : 0.37 inches for my county of Taylor.
Storm total 1.46 for me. SE KY is definitely the wetter side of the state so far in 2019. Looks like the heaviest this week may be back towards your area, however.
1.69in on the gauge in South Williamson. It’s looking better for us on the latest models. Should be able to handle a couple inches spread out over a few days here.
For those of you who do observe flooding going on (creeks, rivers overflowing their banks, waters covering and rushing across roadways) and no warnings have been issued, YOU can contact your NWS office and report what you see. There is nothing like an eyewitness account to verify what is actually taking place. Often the NWS uses radar estimates but cannot always be relied upon especially in higher terrain. You can complain about it here, but CB is not the one who issues the warnings.
Thanks Chris. Can’t say I really like what you are telling us is coming, but, since there is nothing I can do about it, I will just say, I’m glad I do not live right on the creek! There is one out past us about a mile that flows into Lake Cumberland, and it is out of its banks and backed up around the bend where it is normally a very small flow. Also, the Causeway at Burnside Island is in danger of being underwater if this much rain comes. Hasn’t done that since 1984.
Enjoy the “dry” day everyone.
Nice snow shower in Louisville now. Mother Nature’s teasing us again.
This rain stinks, but complaining won’t change a thing. 🙂
Who is complaining?
