Good evening, folks. We continue to track a big storm system rolling toward Kentucky over the next few days. This will bring the potential for flooding, flash flooding and severe thunderstorms. Buckle up because this is gonna be a wild ride.
As expected, a Flash Flood Watch is now out for much of the region through Saturday night…
Flood Warnings continue for many of the rivers across the state…
My rainfall forecast has not changed with a general 1″-4″ showing up across the state…
The new European Model agrees with my area of heaviest rain potential…
This would be enough to cause significant flooding and flash flooding issues.
The severe weather aspect of this system is also going to show up later Saturday into Saturday evening. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible. Here’s the current outlook from the SPC…
In addition to severe storms, high winds will be a be a big factor and could reach 50-60mph at times. With a wet ground, trees may be uprooted.
We need a colder pattern to take home and that looks to happen later next week and into early March…
In the meantime, let’s track the heavy rain impacting areas of southern Kentucky…
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Thanks Chris. It has already started to rain here at our house. 🙁 Sure did enjoy seeing the sunshine earlier today. But I am really concerned about the rain expected this weekend and the flooding and damage it could csuse for a lot of people. I l ow I sound like a broken record, but please stay alert to changing weather conditions and stay safe. If you are in doubt about water depth don’t go in or near it. Have a good evening.
Looks like heavy rain is already moving into southern Kentucky.
I got my bread and milk so i’m ready
Sad, but stay safe!
I should easily top 10 inches tonight and may beat out last February by Saturday. If I do, February 2019 will become the wettest month I have ever recorded.
Last February was 12.24 in.
Looks good to me if it gets the rain out of here. That doesn’t have a super cold look to it, but if below normal will dry us out I will be happy. I don’t want thirty degree highs, but I can take high 40s and low 50s. Spring is a coming, just hope the rain let’s up when it gets here.
Pretty good rain here in Knox right now. Even the bonus rains over perform in Kentucky. The “real” rain is supposed to be here this weekend.
