Good evening, folks. We are rolling our way toward a much colder pattern as we close the door on February and open the door on March. This colder setup is likely to throw a winter weather maker at us later this weekend, but the exact impacts are not yet known. It’s still early, my friends.
Before we get to that system, a big temperature drop is underway tonight into Thursday. This will be accompanied by a weak system bringing rain and the potential for a mix our way later Thursday into Thursday night. The best chance for a mix is across the north…
The period from Saturday night through Sunday night continues to have a very interesting look to it. Low pressure is likely to work across the Tennessee Valley, bringing a swath of winter weather and snow to the north of it. The exact track of the low is, as always, the determining factor on what kind of weather you get outside your house.
The GFS continues to show a pretty big hit…
So does the new version of the GFS…
As does the ICON…
The European Model is farther south than the last run, but still has more rain than any of the other models…
Regardless of how much snow, if any, we get, the air coming in behind this is absolutely frigid for next week and may throw another winter weather threat at us.
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Thanks CB! The model runs seem to show the weekend system more south than the previous runs…. Perhaps a mini version of December 😉
Looks like another flooding event here in southern Kentucky with wraparound snow showers that won’t amount to anything!!! #teamspring
No it’s not frigid and no their will be no snow!!!!
Cold for a day or two then warm!!! Quit Exaggerating
Where can I go to get your 2 week forecast.
Cracker Jack Box
Adam the forcaste I’m getting is cold for the whole week next week. Chris has be saying that March is going to be colder.
I think we all know where this is heading and what’s gonna happen ? Hopefully everyone is ready for another ride on the rain train.
Exactly my thoughts. The dam at lake Cumberland could possibly burst. Any rain amount over 0.4 inches will definitely cause that
The GFS has been superior this season but my money is on the model showing the most rain. #trends
Poor ole SE KY. While you same folks add more snow to your season and upload irritating tweets showing the white stuff at least think about me with the rivers rising and roads falling apart in Harlan. ;(
someone mentioned last post about how we don’t get the northwest flow snow showers anymore, or at least like we used to. When I moved here in 1996, I had never seen just snow shower. In NC, we just had a snowstorm or no snowstorm, but never just showers of snow on and off. I remember driving down newcircle road and it was a whiteout…a total blizzard that lasted 10 min’s, then it just stopped – nothing, poof, gone. Then 30 min’s later, another whiteout. I remember thinking how crazy that was. And it happened quite often but I really don’t remember it happening much anymore.
Years ago, I could about bank on Lake Effect to get about half or at least 1/3 of my annual snowfall average in Harlan. Seems about non-existent anymore but maybe some Tuesday!
Thanks Chris. Guess we will see what happens. At this point I am so tired of rain I’d like to see snow for a change of pace. Ha! I’m sure there are others who feel as I do, even though we’d all like for the weather to be like the past couple of days. But, we’ll see…have a good evening.
Chris did made a bold prediction of a heavy snow storm maybe this is the one coming up. We shall see.
Might just get half my predicted 8 inches this weekend. The another mid week. Winter is just beginning! LOL
I doubt it this is a cold rain to light snow setup.
As far as snow , ladies and gents, if the models show any green, turn off the screen….fork is already in it…..trend not letting go
I agree. The snow chances in the Huntington/Ashland area just disappeared like a fart in the wind. Channel 13 says “models all agree now, rain possibly heavy in the afternoon Sunday, maybe some flurries late night”. Just as I suspected.
We are going to have high water issues in SE KY it seems before we even fully get back into the #RainTrain pattern. Really looks wet after 10th of March!
A LOT OF GREEN on model runs is not so much the luck of the Irish for snow, lol!
