Good Sunday, everyone. Winter weather is working across the state as we get ready to put the wraps on the first weekend of March. This is kicking off a very cold pattern that is likely to throw a little more winter weather our way later in the week ahead.
Overall, my thoughts really haven’t changed:
The best chance for winter weather comes this afternoon and early evening. Light accumulations of snow show up, with streaks of overachieving snow and streaks of “that’s it?”. The majority of accumulations will be on grassy and elevated surfaces. Thunderstorms in the deep south will play a big role in how much precipitation falls. The more thunderstorms that develop there, the less precipitation here and vice versa. If we are to get some slick roads out of this, the best chance comes after sundown as temps crash. We should be in the teens overnight with the potential for a few snow showers and flurries lingering. Here’s one final status check of the forecast models…

I say this time and time again, but it’s important to note the models are forecasting snowfall and not actual snow depth.
Frigid air follows this for the week ahead with another winter weather maker possible by Thursday. For those winter holdouts who are liking this cold and winter weather… Come on over to #teamspring. There’s no shame in it! 🙂
I will have updates later today. Until then, here are your tracking tools for the beginning of this system as it works across Kentucky…

Have a great day and take are.
Chris why no snowfall map
Just another example of how unimpressed he is with this event.
Could over-achieve, or more likely than that it could really bust.
That being said, his snowfall map is almost certainly what it was yesterday.
Basically the system has done the usual thing all winter. The models look good a few days out and then backtracks to Kentucky being the fence. The local mets have even commented we’ve been the fence this winter. We went from a snow map to CB saying the models are forecasting snowfall, not accumulation. Why the maps then? 😉
The models can not even outlook wimpy ankle biters in Kentucky.
Meh….
now officially #teamspring
Let’s go spring RIP winter.
The Radar was playing the circle game. lol
I’ve put way too much confidence into this system. I should’ve known we were going to be lucky to see anything. I’m ready for spring. I don’t even care about the next system towards the weekend, because it’s just not going to happen, oh wait…yeah, it will, it’ll be all rain, *sigh*
I win by never having confidence in the models. If, they ever get it right and the “week away” storm actually materialises, then that’s a bonus.
I couldn’t have said it any better. Maybe next season we’ll have better luck luck. On another note, I’m hoping we do not end up going back into the rain train anytime soon.
It’s snowing here in Valley Station…36 degrees
For those of you who live in West Virginia, Charleston is looking at a top ten least snowy winter at 7.2″. However, if any of that storm system puts down at least an inch, I think the top ten thing gets thrown out. Right now, though, Charleston is 22.5″ below normal.
Winter never even got started in my backyard this year. Less than 1 inch (maybe less than 1/2 inch) of snow this winter. Nothing more than a dusting all year. Good new is that it looks like spring like weather is less than a week away and it should be here to stay. If the consolation of a wimpy winter is for us to finally get spring to arrive on time I will take it. Bring spring.
Officially 9″ here for the winter.
It’s been a true methodical 9″, too.
3.5 perhaps in my part of Richmond…
GFS looking good so far, Next thing to look at is what Chris pointed out, with the storms south robbing the moisture north
If CB’s thoughts have not changed, why did the snow map go bye bye and no mention of storms robbing it north before? Seems the Cats yesterday have knocked everyone off kilter 😉
He did mention yesterday the thunderstorms in the south could rob the moisture.
I hope Spring does not come with the rain train.
I hope not either, but unfortunately, that’s looking pretty likely. I’m very concerned about Kentucky and the surrounding states in the near future.
Snow in Ky seems to be going the way of the dinosaur, extinct.
