Good afternoon, everyone. Our winter storm system is rolling across the state with an increasing band of snow. This is likely to lay down a swath of wet snow from southwest to northeast and will be followed by a surge of arctic air tonight into Monday.
The main snow action develops across southwestern Kentucky and increases to the northeast. This will put down a swath of wet snow that mainly sticks to grass and elevated surfaces, but, at times, it may snow faster than it can melt on roads. That would cause slick travel to develop for some.
As of this writing, the Winter Weather Advisories are not far enough south. The NWS in Charleston WV is the only office adjusting on the fly and they did go south by a couple of counties. The KY offices did not and the Jackson NWS allows for several counties to be jumped…
By the time you’re reading this, hopefully those counties have been filled in and added to.
The morning computer model runs are more amped up with the potential for wet snow this afternoon and evening. Please keep in mind the models are showing snow fall and not snow depth! The short range HRRR shows this increasing band…
This matches up with every single forecast model…

Melting will take care of some of the snow, so you probably won’t see those numbers showing up on a ruler. As temps crash into the teens tonight, icy roads are a real potential.

Thank goodness for the bust.. BYE BYE WINTER …Now bring on spring!!! So excited about gardening, flowers and hiking.
BubbaG on March 3, 2019 at 12:43 pm
Nobody called for much snow, so not a bust. More like no harm no foul. Even the local mets admit we are a fence now. Still better than ice 🙂
Jeff Hamlin on March 3, 2019 at 1:41 pm
No fence
BubbaG on March 3, 2019 at 3:06 pm
That’s not what the local mets are saying and kind of refuting facts to the winter results.

Yes fence

You people ran with with models five days ago… You guys always do, then blame the mets when snow goes north or south or turns into rain lol
Jimbo on March 3, 2019 at 12:52 pm
The current radar looks like most all of the snow is north of the Ohio River as I suspected. I think the warm wedge will do what it does in east KY and into western WV to cut down or eliminate any snow accumulation. The beat goes on.
BubbaG on March 3, 2019 at 1:01 pm
It was always more north of I64 for the main action, but does not mean south of that will not get a slushy inch today. North east though is getting hit again.

Totally incorrect.

Leave the Hammie be! Bald and ginger would be tough on any troll!

I’m not a troll. Stop spreading lies.
Andy Rose on March 3, 2019 at 4:43 pm
You do troll certain people on here and that’s a fact.

No it is not.

It’s also funny that you creep on people’s social media to get material for your gibberish.

It has poured the rain down here in Knox County all day. Some things never change. 1.5 years of miserable rain. Where has the sun gone?
Troy on March 3, 2019 at 1:16 pm
Same here and unfortunately the models show the rain train continuing with rains coming no less than twice weekly. Ugh. That will continue until a major weather event knocks the legs out from underneath this God forsaken trend. I expect 2019 to be another record breaking year of rain and misery.
Which Way Is the Wind Blowing on March 3, 2019 at 1:24 pm
This will basically amount to another cold rain… that sums up any snow you may get in March. The atmosphere hasn’t been right for it all winter, and definitely won’t be right in March… trends people…YAWN
Sarah on March 3, 2019 at 1:42 pm
Many of you need to consider medication or moving somewhere else if snow means that much to you. This has got to be one of the most depressing comment sections on the internet.
Troy on March 3, 2019 at 1:57 pm
It isn’t so much the lack of snow. It’s the near constant and continual rain for the last 15+ months that is wearing everyone’s last nerve…now that is in fact depressing. Haven said that, there are few who can pick up and move on a whim for various reasons.
Jimbo on March 3, 2019 at 3:02 pm
You don’t have to visit the blog if you don’t like the comments. Or just read the ones you like and ignore the others.

The GFS is showing a big snow for Jan 3rd next year, it may change though hahahahaha

Rain went to snow in relatively short order in Bardstown (from the 3 minutes it takes to come from Walmart to my house..lol!) and it’s really coming down, sticking to everything, roads will begin to cover if it keeps up at this rate-temp from 34° down to an even 32° in just the past 15 minutes. Gotta love when those bands set up right on top of me, or else I’d be depressed, too!

There are numerous Tornado Warnings/Severe T-Storm Warnings now in Alabama and into Georgia. As poster Chris (not CB) said earlier, Chris Bailey mentioned yesterday that these southern thunderstorms could rob some energy for our snows.
Just a cold miserable rain in Nashville, 39 degrees.
TennMark on March 3, 2019 at 2:11 pm
NWS Louisville has an interesting link I had not seen before about the March 2 2012 tornadoes. Yesterday marked seven years since that outbreak.
Was that it? Radar seems to show the snow has come and gone… It rained this morning and early afternoon and then snowed for about 30 minutes in my part of Richmond and then basically stopped. What happened to the Sunday afternoon – Sunday night snow event? Oh well, when you set your sights low (as in no snow, just rain) you aren’t likely to be dissapointed.
Bobt on March 3, 2019 at 4:31 pm
I’m glad the moisture is leaving town. It’s rained hard here for most of the day. Don’t need any more flooding. Just hope it warms up and that yellow orb in the sky decides to show itself more than it has in the last 1.5 years. Not looking good the way the first two months of 2019 has started.
Troy Owens on March 3, 2019 at 4:56 pm
Some good news is that this mess of a winter fail comes to an end this Friday… Temps from Saturday forward look to be dominated by 60° highs! I’ll gladly take that and hope for little to no rain.

Yet to see a snowflake here in Belfry……….just more of the same……….COLD RAIN!!
My roof finally sprung it’s first leak this afternoon, it’s been battled tested the past year and fought tough but finally gave in on 1 spot 🙁
BubbaG on March 3, 2019 at 6:06 pm
Hah! We got a shovel scaring .25″ in north Richmond. We might even have hit 6″ for the winter! About 25% of the low end for winter snow forecast, but all’s fair in weather forecasting 😉
Even if this came down as all snow, seems 1″ would be the total. That is unless we get some wrap around action tonight 🙂 😉
