Good Sunday everyone. ‘We are all witnesses’ is a slogan used by Nike and it is certainly appropriate in describing this historic heat wave across Kentucky. The run of torrid temp we’ve had lately is beyond absurd and , in some case, can only compare to similar runs from the dust bowl year of 1936.
We have another day of triple digit temps taking shape across Kentucky today, but the thermometer may have to battle some scattered storms to get there. If you get a mostly sunny day where you live, chances are you will see 100 degrees or better and more record heat. It’s really that simple today.
The storms that do get cranking today may become strong or severe and that is something for us to keep a close eye on. We need the rain, but don’t need the severe stuff. Speaking of rain… the pattern over the next several days is one that should produce scattered showers and thunderstorms. There will be a lot of moisture available and that means some locally heavy totals will be possible through the middle of the week. Here’s hoping the rain falls on your lawn or garden.
Temps for the week ahead still look very hot with 90s likely. Another run at 100 can’t be ruled out, but that will depend on the scattered boomers and clouds.
I have you all set to track today’s extreme weather…

Have a great Sunday and take care.
Here in southeastern Bourbon County at 7:15 a.m., the sky to the north is dark and we can hear the thunder. The wind has picked up and all systems are go. In fact, I just heard the first raindrops on the roof. I hear raindrops!!!!
Well, that was fun.
One minute of rain and then it stopped. I checked the radar and everything that was red and yellow and just to our north had turned green and was off to the northeast. It is evaporating as it tries to push south. Maybe it will set the stage for something later today. Fingers crossed. This is progress!
I am envious of those who saw even dark clouds. Was 107 here yesterday, and the last rain we saw was over two weeks ago. Chris I sure hope we can get in onzome of that scattered stuff, but like you , without the severe to go with it!
Extreme northern ky and pikeville is getting the rain, most everyone else getting nothing, come on rain gods spread the love!
We got the rain (and lightning…that was an unwelcome surprise) this morning. Hope the rest of y’all can get it (without the lightning) at some point.
New STW til 11:00 includes Lex, Lou, Nky.
