Good Sunday to one and all. Our day will start with a sloppy blanket of white across parts of the region as a spring snow system pulls away. If you think this is the end of the “uglies”… think again as this pattern for the next few weeks stinks. ![]()
I will get you some tracking toys to say goodbye to the snow here in a bit… let’s start out with a few words about the future.
– Once the snow moves out early today… skies will become partly sunny with temps returning to the low and mid 40s. Whatever snow falls outside your house won’t last long.
– Another weak system works eastward across the Tennessee Valley Monday bringing another round of chilly rain and some flakes. This will especially be the case across our southern counties.
– Next!!! One more weak low will take a similar track by the middle of the week with more of the same.
– Temps each day for the upcoming week will run WELL BELOW NORMAL.
– The colder than normal pattern will take us into the first week of April before some changes FINALLY begin to show up. This is the type of pattern that should snap out of the cold and go straight into a warm one for much of mid and late April.
– Noticing the amount of severe weather across the country over the past few weeks? This is likely a sign of things to come as I expect a hyper active severe weather season across the country and with the plains into the Ohio Valley being the prime target. We have already had a few decent severe weather outbreaks here and those are the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Back to the now and that includes the departing shield of snow. It is hard to get a lot of snow to stick this time of year and the majority of the accumulations to start the day will be on grassy and elevated surfaces. Some slick spots are likely on bridges and overpasses early today as temps will fall into the mid and upper 20s.

Updates will come your way as needed. Have a great Sunday and take care.
had 1.9″ at the house in NE Lou. Nice scenery with trees and grass wet with snow! Ok, let’s get through the next 7 days and then bring on spring for good!
I guess Southern Kentucky is done with snow then. Looking at the national weather sites it is showing temps in the 70’s by next weekend! Get on out of here cold weather. If I don’t get snow, I want the 70’s! 🙂
This morning we have about 1/4-1/2 inch of snow on the ground in Shelbyville.
where did the snow go? I only have a dusting. I was ready for that 2 – 4 inches of snow. O well we can wait until next winter!
Pretty much busted here. We had about 20 mins of heavy sleet and no snow. 🙁
Ah well, can still hope for a bit this evening. (LOL, I’m always hopin’) 🙂
A dusting of sleet here.
I need my fill of severe storms.
Ok Chris what extended maps are you looking at, 70 by next weekend does not sound ugly to me 🙂
Me too but I need gas prices to go down. I won’t travel too far at 3.50 per gal.
I can’t drive, so I’m stuck in my park. lol
Where on earth are you seeing 70 next weekend? Crackuweather?
I keep reminding myself that traditionally, April and May bring the highest number of weather watches and warnings for Kentucky. So we just gotta’ hang in there and see what shapes up next month. Chris is worried about an active season. On the other hand, guys like Reed Timmer are seeing a quiet season coming up because of the pattern we are seeing. I am leaning toward Chris a little more right now…
can someone post the 12Z NAM? That looks very very good!!!

OK selection committee, you stacked the deck against Kentucky, paved the road for Duke and Kansas with cupcakes. How’s that working out for you!!!
This is a huge thin limb I am going out on, but someone in NKY will se at least 2 or 3″ of snow Tuesday night. The freezing line wil be really close. Watch out!!
Way to go CATS!!!! And what about VCU knocking off Kansas!!!!
Well onto a weather note. LOL sitting at 35 degrees here in knox co. With a HUGE slug of moisture headed this way from west TN. Could spell a sloppy snow event for the mnts. Of ky/tn/va tonight!
NAM was a complete bust yesterday. It had E-Town in the white color 6″-8″… we got zip.
Just sayin’…
I think it’s working out great! 🙂 huge Ky Fan, Kansas isn’t in it …i love the fact that no number 1 or 2 seeds are in the final four! gotta root for the underdogs..oh yeah..weather, well it snowed quite a bit here in Morehead, but woke up to less than a dusting..
I wish some of you great weather wizards would give your opinion about the Florida panhandle area for the first week or 2 of April-im thinking about going but not if it wont be warm enough to comfortably be on the beach–all opinions welcome! thanks
GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, NAM had it pretty close at about 36 hours out. Once it got within 24 hours, though, must’ve suffered from some type of feedback issue. It’s happened a few times this winter. NAM has proven more accurate at about 36 hours out instead of its normal 24 hours or less time frame.
a coating to 2 inches from BWG across the southern KY PKWY overnight into SE KY. surprised chris is jumping on this snow band overnight.
HRRR model indicating a heavy snow band for the southern parts of region overnight, could be several inches on grass if the short term verifies.
