Good Friday everyone and welcome to the weekend. That four letter word SNOW is back into our weather picture as a quick hitting storm zips across the Tennessee Valley late Saturday into early Sunday. This system is likely to put down a swath of accumulating snows across a big part of our region.

Let’s get straight to the snow potential. Here is a look at the areas most at risk for a slushy accumulation…

Your breakdown goes like this…

– Weak low pressure moves eastward across Tennessee late Saturday into early Sunday.

– Rain will start things out on Saturday before a quick switch to snow across the northern half of the state by late Saturday evening.

– A swath of accumulating snow is likely with the potential for some areas to see up to 4″.

– Areas across the south will mainly be a chilly rain with a switch to light snow as the precipitation ends.

– Temps late Saturday night into Sunday morning will dip into the upper 20s meaning some slick travel is possible for areas getting in on snow.

– If this same setup had been with us a month or two ago… I would have a Threat out. I just don’t have the heart to do it in spring. I may change my mind on that if this thing gains a little more steam.

We do have some weather to go through before we get to the weekend snow potential. Today will feature another chilly day with temps in the 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. There will be some chilly showers working across western Kentucky and a few of this may sneak a bit farther east. You can track the action here…

A wave of low pressure will also bring some rains to our southern counties later tonight into early Saturday. That cold rain will come just ahead of our Saturday night slushy snow maker.

I will update things as needed today so be sure to check back. I will likely have to put out a First Call For Snowfall map out at some point.

Have a great Friday and take care.
