12:30pm Update
A TORNADO WATCH is likely to be issued soon for much of central and eastern Kentucky. Stay tuned.
Previous Update
Good Wednesday everyone. Today is shaping up to be a stormy day across the state as low pressure and an associated cold front swings through the region. A couple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will cross the region today and some of these may be on the severe side.
Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats from the storms that may hang tough into the evening hours. If some of these cells get out on their own… an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out.
I have set the blog up with some tracking toys…
Today’s Severe Storms Outlook
Current Watches
Radars for the entire state…
I will have updates as needed through the day and will send out updates through twitter. You can sign follow me here Kentuckyweather or follow along in the twitter feed on the right side of the blog.
On another weather note… our weather is about to take a turn toward the ugly side with a lot of chilly air and damp weather. Some snowflakes will be possible as well. ![]()
Have a great Wednesday and take care.

Please no snow. I love this warm weather. 🙂
Thank you for the update Chris.
Will likely be doing a live weather blog this afternoon, so check it out!!
And Char, I agree, and I am a devout snow lover.
YES! BRING ON THE SNOW!
😀
Anxiously awaiting our severe weather….hoping for some good ones!! Last night’s weather was perfect at the ballfield so no snow please…..and I too am a devout snow lover. Thanks for the update 🙂
We were rolling tape live on the air when Bowling Green sustained 512 million dollars in damage from severe hail back in ’98. I can tell you that hail is no joke and these storms today need to be watched closely. If a warning is issued, get inside!
Going to be watching the blog closely today, Chris, along with the radar. Thanks for all you do. Wxman, I agree. Hail can be very dangerous. And yes, I will be watching closely.
Everybody stay safe, and take care today, please.
morning KY.
I’m sitting here looking at the line that is about to come through the area.
Wondering if that little line is going to help destablize the atmosphere further??? Going to be an interesting day.
Wondering when and if there will be any watches issued today? It sure looks favorable for severe storms this afternoon. Hope to see a good one 🙂
We have a thundershower moving through Lex now. I assume this is prefatory to whatis to come later.

click on the 12Z chart, blue star near Cincy.
Brand new sounding shows little cap on our atmosphere, and a low freezing level around 8,000 ft. When these storms go up, they’ll go up FAST. Just need a little more moisture, and POW!!
Getting ready to storm in Waco !
Beyond this line on radar coming through, I don’t see anything an the radar. Are these storms just going to pop up hard this evening?
A line trying to develop across west Indiana and points southwest. Could be the one to watch for now.
I was wondering the same and they way the NOAA weather site describes it is pop up super cell thunderstorms that will have a tendancy to split. My eyes are peeled looking and the west area is what I’m watching as well.
Tornado Watch is likely to be issued for a good portion of the state soon:

I’m surprised. I figured that SPC would go with a Severe T-storm Watch today since there is little shear. But apparently they will go with a Tornado Watch instead based upon the expectation of supercells. Hmm.. should be about two hours away from gametime now.
storms should fire over southern ILL/IND back into west KY in the next few hours.
Will it be a one hit wonder or will more form behind the storms that pop up?
Me too Char!! These last few days have been spectacular!
AND the damage it does to all our vehicles!!!
Afternoon to you Rolo! I hope you’re feeling better!
Will, the first hit already happened. It was weak this morning, but we did get lightning and a good rainfall.
This second batch will be the main show in a few hours….assuming that we get a trigger to pop things off. Right now we’re all just waiting.
Live blog going over on my blog.
Tornado Watch #55 just posted, and it’s HUGE!
storms firing up here in southern ky..TORNADO WATCH OUT FOR ENTIRE STATE!!
I thought there was very small chance of tornados today. More hail and wind?
Here we go!!!! 😀
EEK!!
Looks like things are heating up…to say the least!
