Good Wednesday everyone. Showers and thunderstorms will become rather common across the bluegrass state over the next few days. This rain will continue to help us out in the drought department and may even put more areas closer to the “normal” range.
A cold front drops southward toward the state later today into Thursday and this will combine with tropical moisture to produce the drops. Rounds of storms will be rolling across the state later today and that will kick into high gear late tonight and last into Thursday and Friday. Torrential rains will be a possibility and this could cause some localized flooding problems.
The GFS shows a good soaking for much of the region through Friday…
Some of the storms over the next few days could be on the strong side with high winds and hail possible. Temps today will hit the 90s outside of the boomers with lower readings to follow for the next several days as clouds and rain do a number on the thermometer.
I have you set to track the boomers of today…

Rainfall Since Midnight

I will have updates as needed and will send out quickie updates via twitter. Follow me @kentuckyweather .
Have a wonderful day and take care.
Looks is like parts of east KY getting washed off the map so far today, nCentral sure could use some of that, people are getting sick of rain over that way while central and west parts are still parched??
The weather: many talk about it and none can control it. As Chris states, over time it all averages out. As a central kentuckian, I’ll be grateful for the rain when it arrives!
Just left Knott Co major small stream flooding in several parts of county. Several people were trapped and many roads are covered in water. Rain has let up. Everyone accounted for no serious injuries.
Would be nice to get some more storms over the northwestern portions of the state today, aside from western Kentucky, this area is more in need of rain.
Parameters this afternoon support heavy and efficient rain producing storms. High lifted indicies and ample CAPE values combined with some decent relative humidity. Not a lot of cumulus cloud support just yet for the northwestern regions of the state. No cap in place, at least not from the CINH (convective inhibition) reports.
Might be a somewhat active afternoon and evening for the rest of the state once the storms clear from eastern Kentucky. Just got the fingers crossed for no severe weather!
still nothing at my house, all around me within 10 – 15 miles has had rain but we have had not even a drop. : (
Sounds like my friends down in Flemingsburg got hit hard this morning. Hope no major damage was done.
Check out the latest radar folks, big time storms and rain forming just about everywhere but N.Central KY! Seen this before 🙁
It’s almost comical at this point. The rain I had on Saturday is but a distant memory. The ground is back to it’s usual dusty, hard self and the trees are dropping leaves like crazy. I feel your pain Todd.
Our only hope is a outflow boundary will form from the storms in Indiana and Ohio and cause a line to form on top of us, but knowing our luck it will be south of us??
My song of the the day for Frankfort, All we are is dust in the wind :)= 🙁 !!!
I’ve had over 2 inches of rain at my house in the last hour and another storm is knocking on the door. Hope some comes your way.
Todd
Looks like you’re getting it straight on top of you in Frankfort. Very dark here in northwest Fayette. Not sure if these storms north of us will pop around us or not. We will see, so far, we haven’t gotten much of anything, though it looks like it could pour any momemnt
i am still in the hole of no rain here in flatwoods, we had some rain on Friday and before that it had been atleast a week since we had had any rain, so basicly we have had 1/2 inch of rain in the last 2 weeks or better, would love to have just alittle bit of that wet stuff for my garden.
Just out of etown ky. Still no rain other than sprinkle since may 31
We just got a LOT of rain in northwest Fayette. It was an OK storm. I’ve seen much worse. Rain was intense though which is what we needed.
Not really sure how much rain we got on US 60 (Winchester RD) but I know it was somewhere between 3 and 6 inches. And still raining.
.6 inch es of rain in Nicholasville at my house, good but not great.
Poor Shelbyville reporting in with nary a drop of rain. No, wait, I take that back. There were 3 drops.
My complaining about lack of rain is over for now, my back yard a couple of hours ago got 2.5in. Of rain with 50 mph winds and major lightning, the lake behind my house is on the rise, I site for sore dusty eyes! Kelly must have sent this my way, thanks 🙂
ashland got slammed with rain and i am 10 mins away in flatwoods and didnt get a drop, still just as dry!!! : (
