Good Thursday everyone and thanks for making KWC your stop for online weather. Wednesday was a booming day across much of the state with rounds of thunderstorms roaring through. These storms packed a heck of a punch with damaging winds, hail, tremendous lightning and flooding rains. We look to be set up to try to do it again today and Friday.
The storms should come rolling from northwest to southeast across the state today. We continue to have a juicy setup this means the flash flood threat will be fairly high today. That is especially true for areas that picked up on the flooding rains on Wednesday. The boomers today can drop an inch or two of water in an hour.
This pattern will last into Friday and that could be another very busy day around here.
I have you all set to track today’s storms…

Have a great Thursday and take care.
Always something new from Mother Nature lately. After the damage from the derecho that brought no rain a few weeks ago, yesterday our house took a direct lightning strike when there was no rain. I was tracking the rain on the radar app and it was not even close to us. All of our appliances made horrible sounds and our transformer blew, but the power company came out and repaired it. So far it looks like we will live to fight another day!!
The rain did arrive later. That was a step in the right direction.
That’s the bad thing about having very high atmospheric moisture content…you end up getting cloud to ground strikes and lots of them.
We missed out on the rain yesterday. Just got some crazy wind that knocked a lot of branches down. Hope we get in on the rain today. The pastures are trying to come back but more rain is needed here.
do you have an app for the I-Phone??
I have the app for the iPad, which is probably the same thing. I zoom in on our farm and watch in detail as everything happens. Love it!
App name?
Hi-Def Radar — that’s what I use on my iPad. I zoomed in on my farm as well and watched it until it moved off of us. I highly recommend it for travel as well —
didnt get a drop of rain here yesterday! hope we can get some today!
Bring on the rain, here’s to hoping everyone gets in on the rain today!
East Ky getting all the rain so far today, the widespread storms are having a hard time forming for the rest of the state??80 percent chance of rain in central ky is looking over done at this point!
I’m hoping the storms firing up over Illinois and Indiana really get cranked up.
Big time storm following I64 south east of Frankfort, my area got a little rain mostly to the south of my area, some area’s are getting 2in plus easy. The stuff firing in Indiana should become severe?
I watched your storm, Todd and was totally disappointed that it completely missed us in Shelbyville. The storms in Indiana are getting big but they’re moving more to the east than the southeast. And there doesn’t seem to be too much line development…which doesn’t bode well for any kind of organization. My fingers are still crossed, though.
Shelbyville has been missing the storms, Im thinking those storms in Indiana should turn right and hit Shelbyville, hope for a more southern turn in the radar?
