Good Sunday everyone. Today is looking to be a rather stormy day across the bluegrass state as a nice little cold front sweeps in from the northwest. This front will likely kick off a few rounds of boomers and there’s the chance some of these could get a bit frisky.
While there is the threat for strong or severe storms today, I’m thinking more about the local flash flood threat. The storms today have a ton of moisture to work with and that means some “cloud bursts” will be possible. That’s something I will be keeping a close eye on.
If we do get severe storms to go up, damaging winds and large hail will be the typical main players.
Leftover showers and storms may hang around into Monday… especially in the south and east. Temps will come down behind the front with most areas in the 80s for highs.
The week ahead looks to feature a lot of highs in the 80s across the eastern half of the state and some 90s in the west. Some scattered showers and storms may develop toward the middle of the week and that action may pick up by the end of the week ahead of a big trough digging into the eastern half of the country.
A few days ago, I talked about the pattern looking a bit more blocky and how that may lead to a cooler pattern developing. Most of the models are going in that direction for next weekend. The GFS is exhibit A…
Don’t tease us like that, GFS!
Back to what’s going on out there today. Here’s your Sunday dose of storm trackers…

I will have updates as needed and will blow up your twitter timeline if things get a little crazy. Have a sensational Sunday and take care.
Thank, Chris. Looks like its going to be an interesting day . Glad to know you have our back! ;). Have a wonderful Sinday, everyone!
Some people go to church on the 7th day of the week, Coffeelady. 😛 lol…couldn’t resist……..anyhow…central KY dodging the rain again this morning. Scattered heavier showers just south of Lexington, then dry to Richmond. Overcast all the way.
Sounds like a fun day to me according to coffee lady 🙂 , looks the heavy rain is dancing around the Frankfort area today.
I’m in Paducah visiting with family. Boy is it dry at this end of the state! We thought we had it bad a few weeks ago, but it was nothing compared to this. And they can’t seem to buy a break. Had a big thunderstorm complex coming out of Missouri last night and it fell apart and/or went north of here. Ended up with a whopping .1″ in the rain gauge.
Our local weather channel update says rain is over for central KY, meanwhile the Local NWS says storms should fire again between 2&10pm, Hoping the NWS is right because the rain has not fired as predicted this weekend in northCentral KY.
Thats one heck of a slug of rain headed toward southeast ky.. Looks like widespread damaging flooding for us this afternoon.
Storms firing in Ohio not building to the south as forecast, looks like rain chances are over for Frankfort area! Forecast bust in our area this weekend, 80 percent chance without a drop today! WOOPS
does anyone think we will get anything out of this system here in the Ashland/Flatwoods area tonight? It doesnt look like it to me!
My M-i-L just moved to Paris from Texas. She knows we listen to Chris and only Chris for our weather forecasts. She just came in and said she heard “that weather guy you like” on the radio saying there was a storm with 70 mph winds heading this way. She is positive that’s what she heard. What on earth is she talking about? It would have been a Lexington radio station. All I can figure is she heard some news story about the Chicago storms yesterday. ?????
Old pattern is back for Frankfort area, rain developing everywhere but here, another dry spell looks to be shaping up for this area!
Looks like nothing so far but overcast skies and a little rain this morning for Richmond area.
Bummer, was really hoping for rain today and some thunder……. 🙁 Maybe next time
