Good Thursday everyone. Temps today will head toward the warmer side of the thermometer, but it simply isn’t going to last. A strong cold front is barreling toward the bluegrass state and this bad boy will bring showers and thunderstorms and another big push of September temps.
High temps today will reach 90 or a bit better in the west and the mid and upper 80s for most of central and eastern Kentucky. Clouds will slowly increase from west to east and some scattered showers and storms will begin to move our way by late this afternoon into the evening. There is the chance of some strong or severe storms across the western half of the state. Here’s what you need to track the boomers…

Watches

The cold front will move in early Friday as showers and thunderstorms become more widespread across the entire state. Will we get rid of the rain in time for the kickoff of the high school football season? I think it’s a very close call for some areas and I will be watching it and keeping you up to date.
The cool air push coming in behind the front continues to look very impressive with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s this weekend and early next week. The overall pattern continues to look like one that will produce below normal temps for the next few weeks. The GFS Ensembles show the cool air anomalies very well…
That’s pretty impressive for the Dog Days of Summer.
I will update the storm threat as needed. Have a great Thursday and take care.
The Dog Days of Summer officially and astronomically ended a few days ago
Can’t wait for your winter forcast. Hoping it isn’t full of snow. I want to go to school and be out the 1st of May again.
The timing of this front coming in tonight does not promise much rain for Frankfort area tonight, computer models are showing a line of storms approaching from the NWest and fading around midnite or so as they approach my area, storms will refire in east Ky as usual when the front goes through that area. Frankfort is very dry again, .15in of rain the last 10 days at my place!
While I am loving the cooler temps, it is too early for them to hang in there just yet. Of course, the way our weather has been this entire year makes this seem in the norm. That means we could have a foot of snow on the ground by Halloween! 😉
Looking forward to seeing your fall forecast, Chris. Yes, I think you shoul dthrow us some tidbits…(saw your post on FB) 😀 Have a great day, everyone!
That storm cluster than Chris had an eye on a couple of ours ago around Indy has faded away, a few storms developing NWest of Evansville at the moment, maybe this will hold together and move this way????
