Good afternoon, everyone. Flooding rains have pushed out of the state and the high winds are slowly calming down as our storm system slowly pulls away. Now, we focus on a different looking and feeling pattern, but one that’s just as busy.
Flooding continues to be a problem, especially across areas of eastern Kentucky. Several warnings are still out…
Rivers are going to continue to produce flooding conditions for the next few days, so keep that in mind.
Winds this morning hit 50mph or greater in several areas, causing some issues. Winds will still be gusty this afternoon, but nothing like what we had last night and this morning.
A couple of rain showers may slide back into the region and we run the risk for a few flurries or snow showers going up tonight through New Year’s Eve. The best chance for this appears to be in the north and east and I can’t rule out some minor accumulations.
Here’s regional radar…
The late week setup continues to look like another rain maker for Thursday and Friday, then some snow and much colder for the weekend…
GFS
Another surge of cold air comes in early next week and may have a storm system to usher it in. The Canadian continues to target the region…
I will have another update this evening. Have a good one and take care.
Not anything new here more rain and maybe a backside flurry.
The Canadian is picking up the donut hole on the model. LOL.
Still collecting data for year end…
Nashville – 3rd wettest year on record, including the driest September contribution (0.02″)
Memphis – 4th wettest year, including 3rd driest September followed by the wettest October
Paducah 70.27″, good enough for 3rd wettest year ever
Knoxville 4th wettest along with 2nd warmest December high temperature of 78 set yesterday on the 29th.
Yesterday’s rain brought Louisville up to about normal for the month. Western KY will still end up with a “dry” December with Paducah seeing less than 50% of normal precipitation for the month. Of course it’s irrelevant in the big picture since Paducah will end up almost 22 inches above normal for the year.
Its been in the 50s all day today currently at 57 degrees in my backyard
Looks like Ohio could get a significant snow next week. Most of KY is probably at least 80% rain and the back-end will then give us the infamous “coating to 2″ snow map” 😉
Not seeing us getting out of fence mode this winter so far. Our state is where it changes from rain to snow and then is all snow to our north and east.
There is no fence…..we are just a dead zone for snow, after all, Atlanta has had more snowfall in the last 3 years than in most Kentucky locations.
