Good Wednesday everyone. We continue to ride the awesome weather train here in Kentucky and not too many people are going to complain. Temps the past several days have been running way below normal, but we will get back into the warm game for the next few days. The pattern I continue to see over the second half of September is one that looks more like winter.

The air our there the next few days will continue to warm. Upper 70s and low 80s across the east with low and middle 80s in the west as we hang on to mostly clear skies.

The system working in for the weekend looks like it will be starved for moisture and may only produce some scattered showers or an isolated storm on Friday. Temps behind our cold front will come down several degrees with low and mid 70s for Saturday and Sunday.

It’s at this point we focus on a jet stream that is just itching to amplify. The first dip in the jet takes place early next week as a cold front sweeps our way from the west. You can see this very well on the European  Model…

That’s some pretty chilly air diving southward out of Canada and it may pick up some moisture from a southern system to produce some rain here by late Sunday into Monday and Tuesday.

That’s the first surge of chilly air and I expect several more fronts to make it through Kentucky over the next few weeks. Each front will be able to tap a little more of the chill developing in Canada and may even give us an early season frost threat. I have been beating that drum for a few weeks now.

The European Model 500mb Height Anomaly maps show the blocky look…

Maps like those are VERY rare to see this time of year. Let’s see how it works out over the next few weeks, but I think you can safely pull out the cool weather clothes. 😉

Have a great Wednesday and take care.
