Good Tuesday to all my fellow weather lovers. The blog has been harping on this anti-September pattern showing up for a few weeks now. This is a pretty wild looking setup and is something you just do not see very often this early in fall.

Let’s break down the forecast:

– Heavy rain and thunderstorms will be common across the eastern half of the state through this afternoon. Rainfall totals may approach 5″ for some areas and this could lead to flooding problems. I will be updating this threat via twitter: @kentuckyweather

– A strong cold front will blast through here this afternoon and you will know it when it does. Winds may gust to 35mph for some folks. This front will also turn off the faucet as the rain slowly tapers off from west to east. You can track all the weather by clicking on the tabs at the top of the blog.

– Temps today will hang in the low and middle 60s before falling into the upper 50s by early evening.

– Skies will try to clear out overnight and this will allow our temps to tumble. Upper 30s and low 40s will be possible across the state. Clouds verses clearing will dictate the low temp at your house.

– Partly to mostly sunny skies and temps in the 60s will rule Kentucky on Wednesday.

– Thursday into Friday will see our winds switch around to the west and southwest and this will bump afternoon temps back into the 70s. Thursday morning may also see a few upper 30s.

– Yet another surge of chilly air arrives by the weekend. This one looks to be even colder than the one moving in today. I honestly don’t know that I’ve seen the 0c line at 850mb in Kentucky this early…

– Scattered showers and storms should move in along and ahead of the front as our winds crank up once again. Then the chill hits. Readings this weekend could very well give us a serious frost threat!

I will have updates as needed. Enjoy your Tuesday and take care.
