Good Sunday everyone. I hope you guys are taking advantage of the awesome weather we have out there this weekend because things are about to turn a little nasty. October comes in with another rainstorm moving across Kentucky and this system is loaded with moisture. That will lead us into a pattern that looks pretty darn cold for much of the country over the next few weeks.
Today will be another great weather day with temps back into the lower 70s for many as skies remain partly sunny. You should notice a little more cloud cover rolling in from south to north during the afternoon and evening. This is ahead of our moisture packed storm across the deep south. This area of low pressure will lift northward into Kentucky late Monday into Tuesday and will bring us a lot of rain.
Showers and thunderstorms will increase on Monday as our winds become a little gusty. Temps will be held down by the clouds and rain. You can see what a healthy storm this is by looking at the NAM Simulated Radar…
We’ve had a lot of rain across the state in recent weeks so we will need to keep an eye on the creeks and streams during this time. Winds will also gust up and this may knock down some of the early color we are seeing from our forests.
This brings us to tracking another big temperature plunge that should arrive by the coming weekend. A cold front will be working into the region late Friday and we may see a wave of low pressure develop along this boundary. Some of the models have been hinting at this lately and that could create some interesting problems across the Ohio Valley.
Here’s the European Model…
That takes us into a pattern ripe for an early season freeze around here as we roll into next weekend and the following week.
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Bring on the snow! LOL
Thanks, Chris. Looks like we are going to need the waders again for the next couple of days. Hope it doesn’t get all of the color off the trees.
I hope the leaves hold, too. My Mom is coming up from FL in a few weeks to enjoy some fall color. I hope she’s not disappointed!
heading to the Smoky mts this next weekend hope we dont get rained out, for now they are saying NICE!!! Hope it stays that way until we leave on Monday to head back to KY!!!!!! Glad your parenst are doing better!!!!!!!!!
This system coming in looks similar to a winter type setup…if it was January we’d have problems.
Just something to think about: The last time we had a cold October with snowflakes by month’s end….we ended up having a BRUTAL winter which also featured the coldest December ever recorded in Kentucky. Just sayin’…
What year was that, WXMan?
2010-2011
There might be many others, but 1993 was at least one time this happened. Fall 1993 snows even in Alabama. Then Kentucky/Tennessee had a brutal January 1994 with heavy snows, lows way below zero.
Accumulation snow in 1993 on Oct 31st, I remember this well because it shut down trick or treating in Frankfort! January 17th 1994 heavy snow with 27 below temps in Frankfort a few days after that 🙂
Yea, and this was on the heals of the March Blizzard of 93. I remember this even more than the winter of 1994 (I was nine, living in east Tennessee). March 93 was so surreal, beyond belief, yet I’ll never forget it .
I really like your way of thinking Weatherman!!! I would love to see lots of snow this year. I know you are really busy Chris but, just wondering about your thoughts for the upcoming winter. Thanks for all the hard work you do for all of us winter lovers!!
