Good Wednesday everyone and thanks for making us one of your online stops for Kentucky weather. We have a cold front crossing the state today and this will reinforce the cold temps we’ve had for the past several days. If you’re a fan of warmer days… the weekend may be just what you’re looking for. Of course, that’s if we can keep the thunderstorms away.
Our cold front sweeps through here pretty early today with a band of clouds and a scattered shower or two. Winds are going to be rather gusty and temps will likely stay in the 50s for much of the commonwealth. Clearing skies tonight will allow for temps to tank with some upper 20s and low 30s possible. It looks like the eastern half of the state could be in line for freezing temps…
Thursday looks very nice with mostly sunny skies and temps in the upper 50s and low 60s. Clouds will begin to work back in here late Thursday night as a weak front moves in by Friday. This will likely touch off some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the process. The NAM is very aggressive on our rain chances…
Temps friday will be tricky because of the rain threat.
The weekend finds a massive storm system developing across the plains states. This is likely to be a severe weather produce out there and that threat MAY extend east of the Mississippi River toward the end of the weekend. The GFS Ensembles…
The pattern for early next week is ripe another big storm across the plains states. There are also signs of tropical system developing well off the southeastern seaboard. We may end up seeing a pretty wild weather map across the country at some point.
Have a great Wednesday and take care.

Interesting link on how dual-pol radar can better detect aerial debris from tornadoes, even from weak EF0 twisters:

Thus, meteorologists can have more confidence a tornado is on the ground, even at night, even if the tornado is hidden by heavy rain.
The LMK radar at NWS Louisville will be taken out of service sometime next week for it’s dual-pol upgrade, depending on when the upgrade at NWS Indianapolis (currently ongoing) is finished.
cooler this morning for me than yesterday
I feel like this winter will be above average in snowfall, and the ensuing spring season may end up being wild with tornadoes. The affects of a mild to moderate El Nino cannot be overlooked in Kentucky, as we’ve seen in the past 15 years.
Looks like a growing season end for some folks tonight, I for one is ready to put the lawn mowers to rest for a while?
