Good Tuesday morning everyone. Many of the bluegrass state is starting out the day with a little frost on the pumpkins and the coldest temps of the young season. More in the way of chilly air is on the way for the next few days, but things look to warm up as we head into the upcoming weekend.
Readings this morning will be in the upper 20s and low 30s in many areas. The good folks at the Kentucky Mesonet let us track the lows…

Highs later today will top out in the low and mid 60s with mainly sunny skies. A few high clouds will roll in during the afternoon hours as a cold front heads our way from the northwest. This front arrives early Wednesday with the potential for a narrow line of gusty showers. Colder air will then work back in here behind the front…
Wednesday temps will have a hard time getting out of the 50s with lows Thursday back into the upper 20s and lower 30s.
The early call on the weekend weather is for a nice sized warm up. Temps may hit the low and mid 70s Saturday and Sunday with that threat for a shower or storm by Sunday. The pattern into next week looks normal to a bit above normal.
I’m still keeping my eye on the end of the month and early November for another big change toward cold. Until then… check out this video from neaby West Virginia from Monday.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.
Love that video from Snowshoe, but it’s so calming that I’m gonna need more coffee now. I guess the reference to next week will be our Indian Summer?
If anyone is interested here is a link to The Weather Centre…He has a pretty neat web site and breaks things down really well. He has just released his Final 2012-2013 Winter Forcast and it has the entire state of Kentucky in the Above Normal Snowfall and Precip range. Interested in seeing everyone else’s outlook. I know after last years above normal snowfall predictions, from most all Mets out there, was a bust. I just don’t see two years in a row without snow. Let’s hope so anyway. Have a great day and thanks Chris for all you do.

Was reading it yesterday…Hope the forecast is spot on..Especially the part where may see storms converge to make one big snowstorm..Personally i think it’s to early to get a handle on things..Was reading elsewhere that “THING” may me trying to show its ugly head again..Of course that thing being the big vortex near alaska that killed winter last year..If i had to guess, looking at some of my notes an crunching the number’s, so far i see an average winter for ky with the first snowfall in late December..2009-2010 stand’s out as one of the best analog year’s so far if we have an El-Nino event.. Of course me is a amateur and don’t understand 75% of this weather stuff but i am learning..lol
Just updated my weather station temps for the year in Frankfort, lowest 13.1 in early January to a high of 105 in july, I wonder if December can beat the 13.1 low, time will tell I guess? BRING ON THE SNOW
I second that! I am learning myself. I also can’t remember when we had two snowless winters in a row here in Lou. Of course we never get that much anyhow.
Thanks Chris for posting that it’s beautiful.I hope this is our year!!!!!!!
Temps far cry from the coldest this season for me was in the mid 40s at my house 0 chance of frost it seems the fog kept what warm air there was locked in. Also its been cloudy most the day as well and temps not close to low to mid 60s more like low to mid 50s but lack of sun will cause that.
Anyone looked at the storm prediction center’s convective outlook for Thursday and read the text? Doesn’t match up with any of the forecast the meteorologist in lexington or weather.com are predictng. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I like seeing the snow video but we should put it in perspective, snowshoe mountain has a elevation of over 4000 feet so it was not like it snowed in Charleston or the valleys. But nevertheless seeing any snow gets my snow gears going. Looking forward to a above average snow year.
Chris… LOVE the new graphics!
