Good Monday everyone. Our first weekend in October is now behind us and it felt much more like November. Temps couldn’t get out of the 50s and we had a few spits of rain across the state. Now we look ahead to a continuation of the chillier than normal weather with the possibility of some fireworks for the upcoming weekend.

The showers over the weekend turned out to be very, very wimpy. We can blame this on the fact that the energy in the base of the trough never came out as a whole and threw little chunks at us, instead. Because of that… there is one more piece coming across the region early today. This will produce a few clouds and another shower threat across central and eastern Kentucky. The highest risk will be across the south and east.

That action works to our east later this afternoon as our skies brighten from west to east. I think you have heard that a time or two lately. 😉 Temps today should stay in the upper 50s for much of the state with low 60s in the west. Tonight is likely to produce the coldest temps of the young season as readings drop toward the freezing mark.

Tuesday’s weather looks great with highs in the 60s with partly sunny skies. Some clouds will increase by the end of the day as a cold front enters the picture from the northwest. There isn’t much moisture with this front and it should only crank our some scattered stuff for Wednesday. It will drop our temps back into the upper 50s and low 60s for highs.

The end of the week into the coming weekend is getting my attention as a big storm forms across the plains states. This storm has a big temp gradient to feed upon and could be a severe weather maker from the plains states into the Ohio Valley by Saturday and Sunday.

A cold front settles into Kentucky on Friday with scattered showers and storms. That bad boy then returns to the north as a warm front Saturday and could set the stage for a line of thunderstorms to roll in here. Here’s the GFS during this time…

We’ll have to keep an eye on how this plays out later in the week we are entering the fall severe weather season around here.

Have a great Monday and take care.
