Good afternoon, folks. Showers and storms continue to rumble across areas of central and eastern Kentucky as we wait on a fall cold front to arrive tonight. This ushers in a gorgeous blast of fall air to begin our Labor Day/Kentucky Derby weekend. A much bigger blast of fall is on the way next week, but the arrival time continues to slow down just a bit.

Many areas of the state have picked up 1″-3″ of rain since Tuesday, with local 4″ amounts. Flash flooding was a problem last night into this morning for some areas. A few more showers and storms are out there across the eastern half of the state today and a few could be strong. Here are your radars…

Our cold front arrives tonight with a narrow band of gusty showers. Humidity levels drop quickly behind this boundary as winds become northwesterly into Friday. Highs are generally in the 70s with a mix of sun and clouds. That sets the stage for very cool morning lows this weekend…

SATURDAY

SUNDAY

Some of the colder valleys will likely dip into the upper 40s for the first time this early fall season.

The setup for next week continues to evolve a little slower as a major blast of cold air dives into the middle part of the country. That turns into a slow-moving cutoff low that won’t arrive here into the middle and end of the week…

That means temps hit the 80s for the first half of next week then drop big time as a major storm system rolls in here. This could also become a heavy rain, storm and wind maker around here…

We may very well go from highs in the 80s to lows in the 40s in a short amount of time.

Speaking of a big swing, this same system is rolling into the Rockies in a few days. Check out the temps ahead of this on Monday…

Temps in Colorado are forecast to be in the 90s.  Here’s the snowfall forecast for this same region a few days later…

From 90s to a snowstorm in 2 days time. How’s that for extreme??

If we look a little farther down the road, we find the GFS hinting at another trough digging into our region by the middle of the month…

In the coming days, we are going to talk a little bit about the fall and winter ahead. Spread the word! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
