Good Sunday, everyone. It’s another falltastic day in the bluegrass state as we get ready to put the wraps on the weekend. This below normal air is going to carry us through much of the week ahead. While we bask in the greatness of fall, we are also eyeing a tropical system down in the Gulf of Mexico. This has a chance to throw moisture our way before the week is finished and may be just ahead of even colder air as we get closer to closing out September.
Let’s start with today and hit the fast-forward button. Many areas are deep into the 40s once again with a shot at some upper 30s in the cold valleys. Fog may keep temps up a bit in some areas, especially across the southeast. Highs this afternoon range from the upper 60s to low 70s for many.
The pattern from Monday through Wednesday features temps ranging from the upper 60s to middle 70s for highs with more 40s for lows. The NAM is actually seeing a little more of a chill creeping back in from the northeast…

From this point, much of what happens depends on the tropics.
Tropical Storm Beta continues to fight off upper level shear down in the Gulf of Mexico and that’s keeping the storm from fully developing…
Given the amount of shear, the National Hurricane Center is no longer forecasting this to become a Hurricane, but they keep it slowly meandering across Texas and Louisiana…
That system may throw some moisture as far north as Kentucky by Thursday or so, but there are many questions as to how it all plays out. The current scenario may throw some showers at us by Thursday and Friday before we get a deeper system to dive in next weekend into early the following week. The setup is one that can lead to a good old fashioned wind-drive rainstorm followed by cold air…

The European Ensembles continue to show a deep trough taking up residence across the eastern half of the country for the final week of September into the start of October…
This may very well bring an early season frost threat to our part of the world.
I will have another update later today, so check back. Until then, make it a good one and take care.
Thanks Chris, 47 degrees was the low temperature this morning in Taylor county and just to my northwest in Meade county the minimum temperature was 38 degrees. Delightful day to be out, but not for me as I am a little “under the weather.” Maybe tomorrow ?
Tropical Storm Beta will go and do whatever. I just wish this tropical storm season would end, and by February 2021 a weak El nino develops.
A frost in early October would give us beautiful Fall foliage to put everyone in the spirit of Autumn.
Thanks, CB. Hope everybody is enjoying the weather. My family and I just got back from a nice walk, was awesome…even if I want summer to hang on a little longer (the wife is ready for SNOW! 🙂 ). Nashville’s official low this morning was 57 and dropped to 54 Saturday morning. As we know, rural areas further away from the big city heat island effect and on the higher elevations are cooler; some of these areas saw some upper 40s this weekend.
We haven’t turned on the furnace yet, but did fire up the little electric heater in the bathroom for the first time this season.
Have a great new week.
