Good Sunday, folks. The big fall storm system we’ve been prepping you on for well over a week now is just about to show up here in Kentucky. This system arrives Monday into Tuesday with gusty rain and thunderstorms and a major temp crash. This will lead us into a pattern threatening to bring an early season frost late in the upcoming week and next weekend.
The weather out there today still looks pretty good with a mix of sun and clouds for most. Those clouds will thicken and may even spit out some scattered showers and storms late today or this evening. Here are your radars to follow this potential…
A strong fall cold front sweeps across the state on Monday and will bring widespread showers and storms along and ahead of it. Once this front gets into eastern Kentucky, a wave of low pressure develops along it. That will keep rain going into Tuesday across the eastern half of the state…
This will be quite the temp drop as the front moves in. Readings ahead of the front are in the 70s then drop quickly into the 50s as it passes by…
That will come with winds gusting 30-40mph at times and will make for a blustery fall evening across the entire state.
As the showers continue across the east on Tuesday, highs stay in the 50s. The rest of the state tops out 60-65 with gusty winds continuing. As the trough deepens late in the week, temps continue to drop and should stay in the 50s for a day or two with lows in the 30s. That brings an early season frost threat by Friday and Saturday mornings. That only happens if skies are clear, though.
Another system then sweeps in here from the northwest late next weekend into early the following week. This is part of an overall pattern favoring troughs digging into the eastern part of the country and a ridge out west over the next few weeks…
You will also notice the massive systems rolling into Alaska. If you look closely enough, you will see how some of that same energy works across Canada and actually dives into the troughs across the eastern US. The Alaskan storm in the next few days will bring hurricane force winds with it and be followed by additional big storms…
This is a pretty supercharged jet stream across North America!
I will have another update later today, so check back. Make it a good one and take care.
Wow, just so absolutely fascinating Chris !
Meteorology is definitely my favorite subject.
