Good Saturday everyone and welcome to the weekend. Things are starting off on a rather chilly and damp note for much of the area as an upper level low spins across the Ohio Valley. That moves away on Sunday and opens the gates for a massive warm up for much of next week. While the warm will get the short term headlines… a serious shot of cold looks to follow it by the end of the week.
Clouds and scattered showers will be possible across areas of central and eastern Kentucky today. This will keep temps in the 50s for highs for many areas. Folks across the south and west will see a bit more sunshine and this will warm those temps up a few more degrees.
Sunday is shaping up to be a gorgeous day as temps warm from the frosty 30s to start, to the low and mid 60s to end.
The 70s are coming from Monday through Thursday of next week as southwesterly winds gust up.
Changes are already showing up for the end of the week with many of the models going toward the idea of a strong cold front moving in by Friday. The GFS is very aggressive with this system…
That front may be accompanied by a squall line of showers and thunderstorms as it works through here. It is also being pushed by a huge blast of cold air. Things look interesting behind some of the recent GFS model runs. Hmmm.
The GFS Ensembles support the cold air idea for next weekend…
The European Ensembles also join the big trough part…
Have a great Saturday and take care.
I can see another winter full of hype and missed forecasts ..
was wondering , what will the lows will be next saturday(27th), and that days temps. You see we were planning an outside birthday party, need to know if we should cancel.
Thanks, Chris. Wow! It certainly has been an interesting weather week. And it looks like there is more to come! Of course, the entire year has been strange in the weather world. All I need to do now is figure out which clothes I am going to need more of. After the warm up this week, is it safe to say that I COULD start putting away most of my summer duds? Just askin’ 😉 Have a GREAT Saturday, everyone.
Certainly peeks one interest what the models is advertising toward the end of the month…Especially around the 27-29th”’ All i can say is wow…Go GFS

no sun and temps barely in the 50s in whitley county
Not sure whats wrong with me but I am in no way ready for snow this year. May have been the horrid winter we had last year from a snow-lovers perspective but I just can’t get into it……I’m like the grinch of snowy weather this year 🙁
J k Chris. All is good
On ESPN3 this Saturday evening, there’s a live Canadian Football League game in Calgary with a snowstorm in progress. Perhaps a sign of things to come in our area? Perhaps a lot sooner than later? 😉

I remember as a teenager watching Mississippi State win the infamous “Snow Bowl” – at the Independence Bowl in Louisiana of all places. Shreveport looked much more like Denver or Green Bay!
