Good Thursday evening everyone. A few snow showers and flurries are working across parts of Kentucky right now and this trend will continue into the evening hours. These flakes are falling along an upper level disturbance diving in from the northwest.
We are getting these snows falling with temps well into the 40s. Why is this happening? Because the air aloft is VERY cold and the above freezing temp layer isn’t deep enough to allow the flakes to melt before reaching the ground. Our readings will quickly fall into the 30s this evening as our gusty winds continue.

With numerous reports of flakes and ice pellets coming from northern Kentucky this afternoon… one has to wonder about this discussion from the NWS in Jackson:
CONSIDERED MENTIONING SOME FLURRIES WITH THE SPRINKLES THIS EVENING…HOWEVER THE
TEMPERATURES DO NOT LOOK LIKE THEY WILL FALL FAST ENOUGH TO COINCIDE
WITH THE BETTER MOISTURE.
Might be worth their while to actually check around to see what’s happening before writing such things.
Just because you didn’t forecast it doesn’t mean it’s not happening.
Have a great evening and take care.
