Good Wednesday, folks. Our big storm system is working into the region today and will hang around through early Friday. This will bring rounds of very heavy rain, a few thunderstorms and very gusty winds as we wind down the month of October. This looks to be followed up by a cold shot of air to kick off November.

Let’s kick things off with the latest on Zeta as it builds toward a late day landfall in Louisiana. Here’s the latest from the National Hurricane Center…

The center of circulation from what’s left of Zeta gets very close to southeastern Kentucky, but likely stays just southeast. Still, it throws a lot of tropical moisture into the region and meets up with another system rolling in from the southwest.

Rain arrives today from south to north and some embedded rumbles of thunder may be noted. The heaviest rains kick in this evening and carry us through Thursday night. It’s during this time we are likely to see a general 1″-3″ rainfall for the entire state and region. Local 3″+ amounts will be possible in streaks. Obviously, we will have to be on guard for local flash flood issues developing.

The WPC is highlighting the potential for excessive rains in our region during this time.

This will be a wind driven rain on Thursday as gusts top 30mph at times. The temp trend is also colder with only the far southeast spiking a bit. Watch the temps drop quickly into the 40s…

This sets the stage for a very chilly Friday as highs likely stay in the 40s for many.

Halloween looks really good with low 30s to start and upper 50s to low 60s for highs. Trick-or-treat temps drop into the 40s before it’s over.

Another cold front drops in here on Sunday and this is looking stronger and stronger as we get closer. Sound familiar? This front blasts through here with dropping temps behind it. A few showers may show up along the front and there’s a slight chance for some flakes to show up in the north and east Sunday night. The models are all getting closer to this potential, with the Canadian Model actually showing it…

Overnight lows reach deep into the 20s by Monday and Tuesday mornings. Winds look very gusty Monday morning and that may drop wind chills into the teens…

Some really nice air follows that up for the middle and end of next week, but the seeds are already being sewn for the next round of cold temps to invade the lower 48 the following week.

I will have another update later today, so check back. I leave you with your radars to follow the increase in rain from the south. Don’t forget to take the interactive radar for a trip to the Gulf and find some live storm chaser streams from the path of Zeta…

Make it a great day and take care.
