Good evening, folks. It’s a cold and blustery day that’s wrapping up across the bluegrass state as we wait on the next winter weather maker rolling at us. This continues to look fairly well behaved in terms of the weather it should bring our way Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Again, this is not a big storm around here, but it’s just enough to to cause a few travel issues by Wednesday morning for many areas.
Let’s do a little recap of what to expect:
- Low pressure works into the lowers Ohio Valley and Tennessee Valley early Wednesday. This is a very weak low.
- Cold air will already be in place as precipitation moves in, but there will be just a touch of warmer air moving in with the low.
- This means a wintry mix of snow, rain, sleet and some freezing rain will show up.
- We are not talking large amounts, but a few inches of snow will be possible for areas staying all snow. The best chance for this is across the northern half of the state.
- Farther south, a wintry mix will change to plain old rain. Wah Wah.
- Light snow and flurries then kick in Wednesday night and Thursday across central and eastern Kentucky.
Here’s an updated look at how this may play out…
I will have the latest on WKYT coming up tonight at 11 then again with the full KWC update later tonight.
As we look toward Christmas week, we find an interesting look on many of the models. Earlier, I shared the Christmas Day troughs showing up on the Ensembles. The EURO only goes through 7am Christmas Eve Morning, but has a threatening look in the upper levels…
That could fire up a big storm system somewhere across the Ohio Valley or eastern part of the country as cold air surges in.
You guys have been seeing me breaking out the whooping stick on the various ensembles in recent weeks. I’ve been especially hard on the EURO Weeklies because they’ve sucked all year, especially beyond the first week or so. They can never get the temps right because they can’t find any kind of cold air. Now that we are closer to Christmas, the weeklies have totally flipped to showing a deep trough on us…
Oh, and look what it’s showing to start the New Year…
That’s quite the change… Imagine that!😉
Enjoy the rest of the evening and take care.
Nothing surprising about the Wed. system.
Looks like I am going to actually get some snow Wednesday
To have a little snow on the trees and grass would be awesome but to have it cold to go along with that snow. That would be double awesome
